Ftb - in the same area. I bought a 1 bed just outside Reading, like 3 miles from centre. 15% deposit a 1 bed for 240k I figured I dont need more bedrooms. It's a big one bed with 2 receptions. Berkshire can be expensive but I figured I didnt need the extra bedrooms etc and I can upside if I so wish in a few years. Though doubt there will ever be a need for that0

Mind you, Green Park is where all the hip, young, city types live (whatever the modern equivalent of 'yuppies' is- she said, showing her age....:o). I can imagine prices would be fairly steep there (especially if they finally get around to building a Green Park station).0 -
Haha I thought that was Kennet Island. Green Park does seem to be the most expensive of the new builds though from what I've seen. Convenient if you work there (which I do). Some of the 4(5?) bed houses on the lake are pushing a million I believe and aren't that big either....0

Yes, I remember noticing some of them were newly up for sale when I ran the Reading half-marathon last March (not long before we moved away). Nice looking but, as you say, not that big and eye-wateringly expensive.
Kennet Island is another 'yuppie' hot-spot right enough, though I'd be worried about the flood risk.0 -

I think the term is "debt slave" nowadays, at least many of the "Yuppies" that eventually handed the keys back got to buy their house for three or maybe four times salary.0
