Poor Smarty network not always piggybacking off Three network

I like Smarty very much but often no signal when my friends (standing next to me) on three have great signal. Not great response from smarty cust services.
Interesting last email i cut n paste here.
The coverage you receive with us may differ from what you rece
Iive with 3 as we don't use all of the same towers as them.
I live in suffolk where all networks struggle a bit, but why not use the three network which works.
Suggestions/help please

AFAIK Smarty is Three its owned by them if anything since i moved from three to smarty my signal is better and i have been with three for quite a few years up until November.
Have you tried your sim in a different phone?
I find a lot of iphones play up on Three my son's and wife both play up on Three for some reason.
I have an old Samsung galaxy S6 edge and have no problems with it.

  • Smarty works great at home and in many places on my phone. When it doesnt work for me in different areas it does for everyone else on the normal 3 network.
Smarty have told me they are using different masts from 3. Why?
  • By the way im on moto g8 phone.

Afaik Three have been using other masts for quite awhile if i remember they use some of EE's
A lot of Networks use other networks Masts i think O2 and Vodafone share.
So could be true what you was told.

Is it possible that Three do not allow access to Band 20 (800MHz) to Smarty customers or alternatively they do but the OP's phone does not have it?

Edit: I see that the G8 Plus has band 20 but the G8 may not.
  • As suggested above, there is no Band 20/800MHz access on Smarty, so it's possible to have gaps in coverage which wouldn't be seen with a native 3 sim.

O2 and Vodafone share mast sites but not signal. In other words you might find Vodafone and O2 equipment next to each other on the same tower, or on the same piece of land, but their respective customers cannot actually connect to the other network's signal.
