Virgin Mobile appalling practices

Virgin Mobile appalling practices

I have a PAYG Virgin Mobile. They keep changing prices and T&Cs with zero notice. Is this normal?

They did tell us that they would hike their texts and call prices to £2 a text/call a day, which was already shocking.

And now I find out they charge me 26 pence just to check my voicemail. There was no warning of that price hike. Then i read on MSE a thread that said they never warned people that they changed their disconnection rule (i you do not make a call) from 180 days to 90 days. I would never had known that fact had I not read it by chance on MSE. I obviously want to change providers but i need to know if other providers behave like that? Thanks.

Easiest thing to do is switch to a better network. If you're not a massive user, 3's deal is excellent.
3p per minute, 2p per text, 1p per MB

Can't go wrong with those prices, especially with Virgin's new hike. 3's rules are you need to use the phone in some way every 6 months to keep it active but otherwise your credit doesn't expire.

Virgin mobile is discontinuing my contracted 'Lifetime Discount' and putting up the bill by £7 pm into the bargain.
Perhaps they are trying to tell me something but I intend to use (some other companies) sim for a few more years yet!

Ditch and switch, if you want to use something as a stopgap, check out 3 PAYG for low/occasional use, or GiffGaff for their “PAYG” monthly Goody Bags - for something resembling a contract/bundle without the commitment.

Before jumping, check coverage at your home/work/pub. A useful guide is the Rootmetrics app or web site, it has actual user measured coverage and data rates, although it’s not identified as to whether it is indoor or outdoor.

Virgin have made no secret of their desire to leave the PAYG market. It looks like they're achieving it by making their tariffs unpalatable for customers

The tree '321' tariff is great for very low /occasional users. Not only are the charges cheap but minimum top up is only £5 and doesn't expire. Only hidden is use once every 180 days. I've ditch virgin after they tried to move me to the £7 a month contract
