PMSL @csgohan4 don't remark on my content when you yourself have issues with the use of correct punctuation spelling and grammar! Walk before you run, eh? Nice avatar lol, kid.

To everyone else stop asking why I am still here. Living in a Jacobean mansion is challenging sometimes can't you tell..shame some of you can't give information or chat without being petty. I just asked for advice that was all.

You can stop replying now. I'll find a way to delete this post.

you got advice which sadly for you isn't what you wanted to hear and you won't be the last to be defensive when you don't like what you hear

    Wish you all the best

So you're a "self-employed IT tech" who does not have a job and will "find a way to delete this post"..? I am an out-and-out technophobe but even I know how to delete a post on here. OP, you are working overtime, it seems to me, to find the negatives in your situation.

I have no idea whether you are at liberty to move as soon as you can find alternative accommodation or are somehow stuck with your present arrangement but you have a roof over your head: You are safe. You have food and access to cooking facilities. You have access to a working bathroom yet you resent being asked to do what, exactly? A bit of cleaning?

Do you prefer living in squalor? I can't believe whatever you are asked to do is unreasonable and, from what you have said, there is a way around it: Get a job.

I hope you find a way to reflect on everything you have going for you. Apart from the above, you have IT skills, according to you so you have potential. If you work really hard to find a job and, possibly, to change your attitude to what your perceive as adversity and to rise above it, it will stand you in good stead.

If you have your health (sorry to sound corny but some of us don't) you have everything to look forward to. Making the best of your current situation will make the wait for better times go more quickly. Think of all the mental energy you are wasting raging against what is and wishing things were different (guilty as charged :o) You will never get this time back so you might as well do your best to find what enjoyment you can right now. Sermon over. Believe in better - so not an ad for a certain TV provider: No-one has copyright on vocabulary.

Second was regarding 'additional' bills in a shared house does your landlord charge you to use the washer/dryer every time - its not about amount but as I said in OP rent is £430 including bills.!

The use of a washing machine isn't a bill which is why it isn't incuded. It is a service or facility. Your water bill is included in your rent but the use of the facility is not.

All multi-occupancy homes have rules to be followed - even family homes.

I live by myself in a freehold flat - there are still rules I have to follow.

Absolutely, there are always rules even if they are unwritten. I own my semi; I don't play loud music, ever. I don't slam doors or windows. I don't slam car doors or play the stereo loudly. I don't expect my neighbours to do so either and, although some do, most don't.

In summary £430 could get me a room or bedsit place with a dishwasher, a power shower, bills etc and none of the aggro above...

then move...oh... you cant? then suck it up until you can because it looks like 430 quid cant get YOU anything else...

cant delete the first post of a thread. can edit to remove text but its been quoted in full. can ask forum mods to delete profile but that doesnt delete posts just marks as archived. baby>doll>pram comes to mind.
One of the hardest of all life lessons is this:

Just because I feel bad doesn’t necessarily mean someone else is doing something wrong.

Just because I feel good doesn’t necessarily mean what I am doing is right.

Nominal charge for laundry makes sense to discourage selfish types from hogging the machines or only bunging a few items in. Still cheap compared to a launderette. This is not a utility bill.

10 hours a day to shower is more than enough - our house is too big for a combi boiler so the hot water is on a few hours (much less than 10) a day. There is residual hot water most of the time. If anyones wants a random shower and the water isn't hot, tough - wait til it is. When my sons come home late evening they know full well not to make 'noisy' food or play music. Likewise I suffer from insomnia but am very quiet when everyone else sleeps. These are just the norms of living together considerately. Very few people can afford to have heating on 24/7 - its not an unreasonable expectation that an able bodied person can be out part of the day and if not, pay extra for extra heating.

Trying to make a like for like comparison of your favoured accommodation to this is pointless.

It sounds like the chores are a condition of living there and some kind of rehab. No different than your own home - you don't expect cleaning done as part of the rent or mortgage in an individual home.

If you are at a stage in life when there are only a few options open to you, this one sounds far from the worst. Make the most of it not the least so you can move on sooner rather than later. Get boiling that kettle for food, washing and some hot water bottles. We have a rechargable hot 'water' bottle. Takes 8 minutes to get hot and lasts for 6 hours or more. Am sure its economical.

I doubt that there is any law breaking going on or any rights you are missing out on. If you suspect something specific you will have to be more open about the type of accommodation and contract/agreement you have signed and possibly why you are there or not free to move.
  • As you are unable to move Im guessing this is a bail hostel / probation licence situation. Have you asked your probation officer about all these rules ? Ive a feeling these would have been considered when the place was accepted
