    Remember that basic breakdown cover will just tow you to the nearest garage if they can't fix it at the roadside. If you want it taken home or to your prefered garage that will cost a lot more.

    Within such a short radius of normal travel, they're quite likely to take to the preferred garage.

    Obviously, full national relay for the long trip is going to be considerably more.

    Speak to your car insurers. You can often add a breakdown policy for £40 for the year. That's not even a pound a week. To me it's a no brainer not to have it when it is so cheap.
    Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.
