Breakdown Cover Short Term?

I used to have breakdown cover because I bought the car new but because I ended up only doing about 3000 miles a year and never more than 10 miles from home I never renewed it when it ended.

My car is 9 years old (March 11 reg) and I get it serviced every year.

This year I have decided to visit my daughter who lives over 500 miles away and I will be travelling from Scotland down the M74 and M6, 2 of us sharing the driving, should take about 9 hours.

Is there any breakdown cover I could get for 2 weeks or even take out a year's cover and cancel it after the first month, assuming I don't need to make use of it of course?

If your car breaks down <10 miles from home, what would you do? Abandon it there and walk home?

I pay about £45 a year for breakdown cover with the RAC, it's basic cover but does what I want it to do.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.

Phone the garage who does my servicing if it was during the day or leave the car in a safe place and get my son to pick me up.

Or even walk home or get a bus depending on the time of day or if it was raining or not.

There are numerous senarios that can be done.

All of which would cost more than a cheap, basic annual breakdown policy.

And how would you move your dead car to a safe place?

Try Start Rescue, prices from £26.10 per year for 1 star. I have 3 star for less than £35.50.

You don't have the luxury of time if it breaks down in an inconvenient location, blocking traffic. If you haven't called the breakdown people by the time the police get there, then you're getting recovered by whoever their approved contractor is.

    Ignore the big players.

    Plenty of cheaper providers.

But a lot is going to depend on what you want out of the cover?
