Morning, all,
Just having a coffee in bed before I start the day.
It'll be good to be able to get my head down and focus on work properly today, without all the distractions I've had of late.
I got a quote for an end of tenancy professional clean last night. I'm sure it's double what it used to be, but so is pretty much everything these days. It's the company my estate agents recommended and a professional clean is part of my tenancy agreement with the pets. I must say it'll be a relief not to have to rush around cleaning everything myself like I have in the past (or with my ex any way) and then worrying it's not good enough. Once the removals company have moved my stuff I can just focus on getting the new place unpacked and sorted.
I have a removal person coming round tomorrow to give me a quote, and then 2 companies doing a quote by what's app video next week. It'll be between £600 -1000, and then I'll need to buy boxes and bubble wrap. Again it will be a relief not to be exhausted packing vans and carrying furniture like I have in the past. My Uncle has helped me for my last 2 moves, but he passed away last year and there is no way I can do it on my own, so a removals company it is.
I'm also going to get a quote for getting the 7 sides of door my dog has scratched sanded down and revarnished. I'm sure it's something I could do myself but if I mess it up I could be charged for new doors, so I'd like to at least see how much it will cost to get it done properly.
I've spoken to my friend who is giving me an interest free loan to move, and we have agreed £2k with a minimum of £100 pcm repayments. He's going to write it up in a letter so we have it in writing which is very sensible, and will prevent any of the problems that can arise when you loan/borrow to friends. I actually think I'll be able to repay most, if not all of it,nby the end of January but if the costs go over then it will give me some leeway.
A member of my family contacted me out the blue at the weekend and offered to give me a good whack towards my deposit as a gift. They transferred it over yesterday when I got offered the house, and don't want me to mention it to anyone. It's unbelievably kind of them and I'd love to have been able to say, oh no don't worry, I don't need it, but sadly I very much do if I want to stay away from credit cards. I've had so much kindness from my friends and family since all this started - messages, calls, offers of help, offers of stuff they don't need. It's really overwhelming and I'm just so incredibly grateful. I must make sure I'm as kind and generous as I can be going forward to pay it on.
I think it's actually possible I'll be able to do this flit without incurring any additional debt, which feels like something of a miracle. Hopefully I'll have my friend paid back by the end of January and that'll be that. Fingers and toes crossed anyway.
Right, just about time to get on with the day. Hope it's a good one for everyone 😁
Live the good life where you have been planted.

Defo worth asking around for boxes. We bought some from the removal firm but folded them flat in our loft until we heard of a family member moving house & they were delighted with them. Our garden centre also has an area near the door where they stack up boxes for customers to take. I suppose it helps them if businesses have to pay for waste removal.
