Switched bank account and then took out direct debit on old account- will it switch over?

Hi I've recently switched to HSBC to take advantage of the £175 offer. There is a requirement for 2 direct debits to be switched too. I'd totally forgot I'd cancelled the direct debits in my account. The switch occurred on 3rd January, and my balance has now transferred across. However, I've tested the old bank card in an ATM and the old bank account appears to still be open (I think it remains open for around 7 days post-switch).
So to try to salvage the situation, I've taken out two direct debits on 6th January for the old bank account. Will these two direct debits now switch across to my new account?

I would say almost certainly not. But I am guessing. You are better placed to find out what actually happens. Please come back and let us know.0

I was hoping that it'll operate the same way as if money gets deposited into my old account, it automatically gets forwarded to the new account.0 -
They do say though "Transactions will be redirected to ensure all payments attempting to be collected from or being made to an old account will redirect to the new account"..... for 3 years. So may be you are in luck. Please do come back and update us on what happened.

But then, there is this:
Q: Will the Current Account Switch Service automatically transfer new payment arrangements if I set them up at my old bank within 7 working days of the switch date agreed with my new bank?

I think what is most likely to happen is that the payees of your two new DDs will let you know that they were unable to set up the DDs with your old bank.0

Thanks, that second link doesnt make encouraging reading. If it makes it any easier for my banks, the account that I've switched from was First Direct. So as theyre the same bank, maybe theres more of a chance it'll switch over.
I'd enquire directly with HSBC but I find them to be utterly atrocious to deal with. The whole things been a bit of a nightmare, the switch has been almost a month late - I selected 12th December, which was a date I selected so that it would have switched when I had two direct debits active in the account. I heard nowt from HSBC throughout December and got no response to my email and facebook enquiries, so I just assumed they'd binned my application. I then cancelled the direct debits at the end of December as I didn't want them renew. Just my luck, the switch then goes ahead a few days later.0 -
As I understand it, the switch itself is a finite process that happens on one day, even though there are preparatory activities in the 7 day lead-up, plus the ongoing post-switch payment forwarding for years afterwards.
It seems to me that even if these subsequent DD mandates, or associated payments, made it over from old account to new, that wouldn't actually be considered part of the switch itself (as that happened last week), and so wouldn't qualify for the incentive payment....0 -
Thanks. In that case if they do swindle me out of the £175 I'll have to go through the chore of making a complaint. Has anybody else had it where a bank backs out of the agreement to switch on a specific date (delaying the switch for almost a month)?0

If you didn't have two DDs on the date of the switch then you won't meet the T&Cs for getting the £175. Your complaint will be rejected.
Not sure what you mean about the month's delay can you elaborate? Thanks0 -
I was under the impression from your earlier post that they hadn't agreed to switch on the earlier date but merely that you'd selected this as a preferred option during the application process? However, if they did agree to switch on a specific date but then failed to do so, you may be able to make a complaint stick, especially if they also neglected to notify you of the later switch date....Has anybody else had it where a bank backs out of the agreement to switch on a specific date (delaying the switch for almost a month)?0
