M and S

Tired to open a M and S bank account before Christmas in order to make best use of the offer before it closed. Today I receive a email saying that the account has been approved. I have been told to sign the agreement forms. I am thinking it no longer is worth while as I was only opening the account for the offer and it looks like I have missed it. Do you think this is the case?

What “offer” was it? If it was the switching incentive why don’t you open the account and then switch when they bring the offer back (which they do from time to time)?
  • Yes it was the switching offer. Is it likely that when it comes around that it might only be for new customers? Or is that not usually the case. Thanks for your help.

Can you switch it to HSBC, that's still got the offer?

Did you apply before the switch offer deadline?

If so appeal to their better nature and ask for the deal to be honoured, explaining the delays over the holiday period.
    Then you have two chances!

Be polite and slightly grovelling and you might be lucky! it is always worth a try.
    Good luck

I am in the same situation as you, infact slightly behind you, but am not worried and as far as i know I will (and therefore you will) qualify for the bonus as long as you meet the other criteria.

on the MSE bank acounts bit it said you only had to apply before the 6th of jan, and have 3 months to switch. I applied on around the 2/3rd jan, and have yet to even have confirmation but they did have me call them to query some details.
and I don't even intend on switching untill the end of the month either, but i'm sure that will be fine as it said you only need to switch within 3 months

I spoke to customer service and they told me the account needs to be open before the deadline, not just application. Although you could always try asking nicely... In the terms and conditions it did say that if you previously switched to them you do not qualify. So its probably better to wait see if they make another offer.

I'm concerned to hear this. I only applied a few hours before the deadline but all the info on MSE said "apply before the deadline to qualify for..." I didn't see anything about "Your account must be open by the deadline to qualify for..."

I've only received one piece of communication from them so far (a text message to say sorry about the delay but a lot more people applied than we expected), so I'll just wait and see for now.

How do you know the CS rep knew what they were talking about? It’s the switching terms that are the relevant source. Ask them to send you a copy of them.

    Here's the terms and conditions.
Doesn't say anything about an end date... so if you applied before deadline you may be OK

    M&S are sloooooow.
last I heard was on the 21st Jan, confirmed I had been accepted, gave me my account number & sort code, got an agreement to sign by e-mail, did it straight away, not heard back since.
so its been 4 weeks so far, and it's still not finished, nor have i got to the switching part
good job they give you 3 months to switch!
