Hello to all and a quick update from me.
Weekend went well, no drinks for me, just two tonics with ice and lime, although I did eye up OH’s chilled glasses of white wine on Friday evening. This weekend coming up 24-26th will be the testing time for me as I’ll be by myself.
Not that I like to drink specifically when I’m on my own, but I know that I will have plenty of ‘downtime’ with nothing special planned, so it’d be an ideal opportunity to enjoy a drink and relax with a book….
But I’m determined not to crack – OH’s birthday is on 31st, which is the following weekend, so I must keep going until then – we are not far off now!
Made another attempt at my 5km jog yesterday, and successfully made it up the hill – yay! It wasn’t easy but felt sense of achievement was felt and it was a beautifully crispy sunny morning.
I also wanted to cut off biscuits during the week, and have to admit that there has been some slippage on that front, but nothing major. I’m keeping them as my ‘life line’. I may get a bag of liquorice or English All Sorts on Friday as the weekend treat.
Workplace has moved to a new location which is further away, previously I fitted a nice 40-45min walk each way daily but now it’s too far. I’ll have to see if I can maybe walk part of the way – otherwise the exercise count will be 0!

Hello, how are you all doing. 4th weekend and I'm bored. The novelty factor has worn off and I'm finding it a bit harder today. DH had a race tomorrow and will be going out after. Slightly jealous. I just want to go to bed with the kids nowadays. Mornings and days are so much easier. I've come so far and will stick it out.

Hope you have a good weekend

I could murder a glass or wine right now. And I can't see that doing the dry January has really had much benefit apart from maybe to my pocket. I'm just eating more chocolates instead.
But I agree that having come this far we might as well carry on - shows willpower which in my case tends to be few and far between.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I really fancied wine on Friday night, first time all month. I ended up buying a bottle of alcohol free Sauvignon Blanc. Tastes very different to wine but I liked it and I sat there drinking it from a wine glass on Friday evening and it kind of felt a bit like having a drink!

I've realised that it's when I'm cooking that I'm thinking "a splosh of red wine would really improve this." Then it's a shame not to drink the rest of the bottle.

  • Another AF weekend and I definitely do feel better for it. Visiting friends on Friday night and they had bought some nice tonic water so I drank it and really didn’t miss alcohol at all and was able to drive home - and also was able to resist the cheese board because there was no lovely red wine to pair with it. Last night we watched a film and I had an alcohol free G&T. I’m realising it’s more the sensation of doing something special that I miss than the alcohol itself. And wakening up this morning feeling fresh is an added bonus. Though I didn’t go for a run Thriftylass well done you, I could hear the rain beating off the window while I was snug in bed.

The longer I’m off it the more I wonder why I drink if I’m honest. I’m definitely keeping going after January. There is only one possible exception which is a big birthday for my oldest friend. To be honest I’m not dying to drink for it but if it feels weird not drinking I will. Otherwise I’m sticking it out til mid-March. How’s everyone else feeling about keeping it going??

I will keep going too. "Survived" a surprise birthday dinner invite tonight. Felt tempted once home but just got an alcohol free cider. Will be grateful tomorrow :)
