So it's a conventional oven only I see. I'd definitely get the oven thermometer then so you can see exactly what the oven temperature is and where, if any are the hot spots. It could be that you may have to move your baking down a shelf.

Have you or anyone else used it successfully? It might be faulty, an oven thermometer can show you if it temperature controls are fine.

the model you gave us seems to differ from the booklet, as the booklet is for an oven with a fan, however on page 6 it tell you the oven mode, and page 7 tells you how the heating effects the oven and the thickness of the things.

Although different, think your oven should be set to the dial position with the line on the bottom (7 o'clock position)

Turn on the oven for 30 seconds , and stick your hand in (not stick your and on) you should only feel the heat coming from the bottom, if that is the item you selected

while the thermometer is on its way, and if you are desperate, get a cup full of hot kettle water and put into a pyrex dish or jug, then place it in the oven and set the temp on the dial for your version of 90C, and that water should not boil because we all know the water boils at 100C. After say 10 mins edge the temp up to 95 on the dial and wait another 10 mins to see if the water boiled. Once the water starts to boil, you know that you have at least reached a temperature of 100c or more. The gauges are often out a bit out, and there are cold and hotspots too.

To find cold spots.... make some thin cookies. measure them exactly so they all are the same size - ice cream scoop. it takes 5?? mins to bake a cookie? Put a scoop full of the same size dough on a baking tray either in the form of 6 spots on a dice, or 9 spots as in noughts- and - crosses, and bake for 4?? mins. some will be baked sooner that the rest, or burnt or not done which indicates the hotter and colder spots

Should probably ask my landlord about it... The most successful bake I have had is the apple pie, and after a couple of tries I have learnt that I need to keep the heat not above 150 C, and then it cooks evenly.

Yeah, I find that with the apple pie, after multiple tries, I adjust it at a much lower temperature and it cooked evenly then. My colleague suggested placing an aluminium foil on top of the cakes so they don't burn the tops. The thermometer is a good shout! Will definitely purchase one! Thank you! Any recommendations on which one I shall purchase?

The one I linked to earlier will be adequate enough.

Sounds like the thermostat is out of whack and doesn't match the selection on the dial. But you will find soon enough with the thermometer.

If so you might have a case with the LL for it getting fixed/replaced for being a fire hazard.
