Parking permit upside down- REALLY!

Options
Hi all
Have looked and cant see anything about this company or the ridiculousness of the reasoning for this fine.

My husband is a gas man and regularly pops into flats to do safety inspections etc. Today he got a parking charge from Bristolparkigservices ltd. Here’s the rub

He had displayed the correct parking permit was within all lines ect. The block of flats has a secure gate which needs a fob to gain entry, which he used as his official authorised entry from the estate agent.

He had been there 20 minutes in total and saw the guy about to write the charge. The attendant refused to acknowledge he had the correct permit displayed in the van and just pointed to a sign approx 10m away showing the parking permit must show one specific side. He stated if the wrong side is displayed he can write the ticket. There are no items displayed on the card on either side which would render a permit unusable such as dates or permit numbers ect on the permit which is credit card sized.

The permit although clearly the correct one, it was upside down in this case as a simple mistake this time He regularly parks in these flats whilst on jobs, has seen the by before and never been given a ticket previously.
The reason for issue on the charge notice. “Showing the wrong side of the permit”

Can they do this? It is simply ridiculous. The fine is £100 dropping to £60 if paid immediately. This cannot be right or proper how can we appeal this?
Many thanks for any of your advice.

Many judges regard these "flipped ticket" claims as de minimis, a waste of court time so the scammer would be taking a risk in going to court.

Nine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.

Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.

Hopefully life will become impossible for the worst of these scammers, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies.

Who the heck are they and are they in the BPA or IPC AoS ? Never heard of them!

Seeing as that's the first thing the NEWBIES thread tells you to check, we assume he's done that to make sure they are even in an ATA?

What else does he need to know that's not in the NEWBIES FAQS where it tells you all about BPA and IPC members and how to appeal or not, as the case may be?

Post #5 of the NEWBIES FAQS explains the acronyms in case some are a sticking point.

  • Hi yep we did try to read and understand what to lookup .

Here’s the low down, they are in IPC.

Bristol Parking Services Ltd is a fresh and new company providing parking management to private land owners and their agents who may have problems with unauthorised parking in their car parks/bays which are meant for their residents/staff.

We are members of the International Parking Community which is accredited by the DVLA and are governed by their code of practice.

If you own, manage or live on a site and have a problem with unauthorised or inconsiderate parking then Bristol Parking Services Ltd can help. There are few things more infuriating in life than coming back to your parking space and finding a vehicle parked in it without your permission, particularly if you are powerless to do anything about it. Bristol Parking Services Ltd is a well established company operating in Bristol, Bath and surrounding areas. We are able to manage parking on residential, institutional and commercial sites including: numbered and disabled parking bay monitoring, pay and display car parks revenue protection, trading and industrial estates, shopping centres, educational establishments, hospitals and health centres, swimming pools and sports centres estates , loading bays and "no parking areas". If you have one or one thousand parking spaces and a parking problem then we at Bristol Parking Services Ltd can help.

I suspect an appeal will be absolutely futile. I would send the ready made template just to set out your stall.

The template can be found in the thread at the top of this board that tells Newbies to read it first
  • What I really don’t get is that by stating the permit was displayed upside down they are confirming you have a valid permit displayed.

How in any sane society can then then find a way to charge you that. It’s simply bonkers! And most depressing that people now stoop to you have a permit and it’s displayed just not in the right way so we will charge you £100 for 20 minutes parking.

What reasoning can we use to appeal this??

STUPID BOYS are Bristol Parking Services Ltd

Being part of the IPC classes them as Scammers with head honcho Gladstones solicitors waiting to pounce
Trouble is that Gladstones are like an old arthritic spider, so so incompetent

The Gladstones/IPC scam must be catching and the muppet warden has got an arthritic neck and cannot read upside down.

Do they really think a court judge would listen to their rubbish.
New boys still playing with themselves, if you know what I mean

    You do NOT need it.

No IPC firm is beaten by appeal. There is no appeal, that's part of the scam.
