Virgin Money - processing wages for a Monday payday

So ive been to the bank about this but i dont think they understand the simple question :)

Anyone that banks with virgin money that has an essential current account answering this would be great!

my wages are due 27th every month and its always been processed into my account between 9-10 on night 26th.

this month my wages fall on a Monday and with always being paid the night before and to my knowledge banks dont run jobs on Sunday im wondering when the bank would process this? anyone with an essential current account had experience with this?

My payroll send pay deposit by BACS 3 days as they confirmed below
" The BACS is sent 3 working days before pay day to ensure it is released into your account on time, there’s an outside chance it might credit on the Friday depending on your bank, but we’d advise you’d be paid on Monday 27th January as that is pay day "

any advice appreciated!

With all due respect, does it really matter?
Surely you've been paid before when the 27th fell on a Monday and received it okay, yes?

My pay day is the 26th which this month falls on the Sunday. I may get it on the Friday, but its equally likely I'll get it on the Monday instead. I don't care which as long as I get it.

If you didn't get paid at all then that's an entirely different thing.
  • With all due respect you have given no advice which is what i asked for besides talk about your own payday lol and the fact you dont care!

it does matter yes and no the company im with my payday has never fallen on a monday, if i was due to be paid 26th like you and got paid on 27th that would matter to me as i would want my wages on the day they are due to be paid not the day after.

People on this site are incredibly rude and arrogant - you'll need to get used to it or stop asking questions!

The advice your employer gave seems correct, and I don't think you're going to get a more accurate answer than that from anyone or any bank. If your payday is Monday, you'll probably be paid on Monday, but possibly on the Friday before if it goes through quickly.

I don't think it was an arrogant response I wrote, surely one should be aware that if pay days fall on a weekend they either get credited on the Friday or the Monday. The last time the 27th fell on a Sunday was only back in October 2019 so it'll just be the same situation again.

Unless of course one has standing orders and direct debits to go out on the 27th but of course they wouldn't go out on the Sunday anyway and a spot of planning (ideally) wouldn't go amiss either...

Dismissing their question as pointless because it doesn't matter to YOU, and now implying they're stupid because they aren't as knowledgeable as you are, certainly is rude.

If you can't see that then it explains a lot about this site.

I never said it was pointless, what I actually said was "does it really matter?". For most people it doesn't and the OP hasn't said why they're so hung up on receiving money on a specific date when it falls on a weekend.

And planning and maximising money throughput and saving is the whole point of the site. The forums are what they are, nobody is any ruder here than any other webforum I have been part of in the last 21 years. Sometimes people need to be told the honest truth - doing the whole "diddums" thing doesn't really help anybody.

After re-reading your original post a couple of times I'm not sure what you are asking exactly? Are you saying that you need the money urgently to pay something on the Sunday night? Or are you hoping that it shows up on Friday night?

If your employer has set the BACS value date as Monday 27th then you will receive the wages into your account on Monday 27th no matter what. Some banks do show BACS credits on your account the night before they are due to arrive, but equally many do not. Whether it shows up on the account the night before, or whether the day before is a Sunday won't make any difference.

BACS payment due on a Monday will be processed Sunday/Monday night, to be available in your account at opening of Monday business at the latest. In reality it will be available several hours earlier. I can't tell you the exact time the payment will hit your Virgin account on Sunday night, maybe the same time as weekdays, maybe a few hours earlier or later - but definitely before the night is over.

On my Santander account (Monday payments arrive on Sunday about 10:30 pm) I will get a notification by mail when a payment over a specified amount gets credited. Check with Virgin if they offer the same service, which would take-out all the anxieties you have.

With the upmost respect OP, the 27th January is a Monday, you will be paid on that day.

if unfortunately you have run out of money before this date, that is not the fault of your employer or your bank. if this is the case, I suggest better budgeting is what you require.

Not the answer you want to read, but then again …

For advance notification, in June 2020, you should be paid on Friday 26th. If you plan this now, you may be able to afford next xmas without running out of money!

Obviously it does matter - otherwise they wouldn't have asked it. You knew that but just wanted to make a flippant comment. If you weren't so quick to do so, perhaps you would have noticed that their payday ISN'T on the weekend.

Rude people generally don't believe they're rude... Sometimes people do indeed need "the honest truth" - particularly the numerous posts you get about how someone has been conned by their bank when in reality they're just ignorant. I'm struggling to see how asking what day BACS payments get paid when the due date is a Monday deserves such a snotty response.

    Exactly what I mean...

    1) Why are you phrasing that as if they have already been told that they'll be paid on the Monday and they're ignoring it? In fact, the only definitive answer they were given in this thread was that they would be paid on SUNDAY whereas their payroll have told them Monday. It's perfectly obvious why they therefore may be a bit confused as to which day it will be paid...

    2) Not only have they not said ANYTHING about running out of money, they haven't even hinted that they blame their employer or their bank because of it.

    3) That is EXACTLY the answer they wanted to read as it's the answer to the question they asked.
