Buying Roku premier

Options
I have posted in techie forum but I think I might get more response here. Those who used roku can you please confirm whether the stick will pick up wifi? Getting 25mb max at the moment. Bt wireless router is downstairs and tv will be upstairs. Before buying I want to make sure the roku will pick the wireless network. Wifi speed good so far no issues. Will be using to watch Netflix and you tube. The tv is an old Panasonic with hdmi. Will buy depending of the advice I get no point buying if it cannot be used. Thanks

If you're asking if it uses WiFi then the answer is yes, if your question is will it pick up your WiFi signal then the answer is yes/no/maybe. Not even Roku will guarantee a good WiFi reception as there's far too many variables.

All the current Roku's are Wi-Fi only.

In what way? Can you see your Google images, NOWTv etc with it for instance? Or is it tied in with whatever Amazon decide is good for you?

Have a look on youtube re firestick,it dont limit you to Amazon.iplayer, itv hub.Plus lots more you can add.
  • Ive used the Roku and fire TV.
Both will work with wifi, as a test try streaming on your phone over wifi where your device will be.

Roku is more of a pure media streamer, focused on legitimate streaming services, with a simple uncluttered easy to use user interface.
Fire TV has what can be described as a flashy busy, if not cluttered user interface, with lots going on - a chunk of that is focused on Amazon services.

Fire TV can be made to run streaming apps from less than reputable sources ( ie some of the kodi add ons) Roku your pretty much stuck with the legit side of things.
Roku has access to a few things that Fire Tv doesn't, such as Now TV.
my personal preference at the moment is Roku
  • I bought myself a roku (it works fine on WiFi) one of the kids bought me a firetv stick a couple of years later, I tried it and then went back to the roku.

Almost in the same boat, re Roku/fire TV.

One thing i would recomnd though, is going for the Stick+ as opposed to the premiere, and apply for the hdmi extender https://my.roku.com/hdmi
