Help with Sky

Options
I had a sky account and moved out the property (divorced from ex wife) 3 years ago, account in my name and I've come to cancel it and someone has started a new contract at 18 months, my ex wife has said she hasn't restart the contract.

The account has to stay in my name.

They wont let me cancel it and I've explained about not living at the property etc

Can anyone help me please.

Thanks
Rob

Your post is a bit confusing.

Was your ex living in the property?

You didn't cancel when you moved out?

Are you saying it is still in your name and someone has taken out a new 18 month contract? If so, I think your ex is telling fibs. Was there anyone else living in the property who may have done it.

What e-mail address is linked to the account? You usually get e-mails when taking out a new contract.
  • Sorry for making it confusing,

Yes my ex still lives there with our chrildren.

I couldn't cancel it as I was in a contract, I moved back in to parents as I couldn't afford my own place at the time, they have sky, so I was unable to take sky with me, I spoke to sky at the time and was advised to change the bank details.

It's my old email address registered which I dont use, so I'm abit stuck, sky wont allow me to change the name on the contract until its ended in March 2021!

I'm worried if my ex doesn't make a payment then it will be me responsible, I've spoken to sky and they said they have made notes on everything I have spoken about.

BUT.... they have no notes about who they spoke to for the new contract?!

    Thanks

Could your ex have known your sky account details? It could easily be renewed online.
  • I asked her this evening and she said No she hasn't logged in and she didn't know the password, when I phoned up today, I said I didnt know the password and said my date of birth and address and still was able to access my account.

I asked how was this processed for the new contract and I was told most likely phone call, but no notes regarding it at all, I asked for the call recording to be sent to me and the sky operator didnt answer me when I questioned about listening to the call

If there were no notes then that suggests to me that it was renewed online or possibly via the box itself (if it's the Q system).

Of course your ex is going to deny it.

If I'm understanding it then she is currently paying the bill? If so you have 2 choices.....let it run and hope she continues to pay till end of the 18 months. Obviously you would notify them 30 days before contract is up to cancel.

Or you make a complaint that you didn't renew and provide evidence you were living elsewhere. However if it was renewed online then that is a difficult argument to win.
