I've sussed out Amazon "we missed you" deliveries...

I was in the house all morning in my office, which is adjacent to the front door.
The postman came and rung the bell (and knocked on the door) and I signed for a package and went back to what I was doing.
A short while later I heard the letterbox and I thought it must be leaflets or something.
When I looked, later, it was an Amazon "we missed you" note saying the item was left behind my bin.
Now I know they didn't ring/knock...
..., so I figure they write out a load of while-you-were-out card before setting off for the delivery and then save time by bunging things behind the bin and popping a card through the door; no need to ring the bell and wait for someone to come to the door then!

Must be lucky where i am. Always gets handed over, if not its because im not in and they give items to my neighbour as instructed under the 'add delivery instructions' on the amazon checkout page.0

I got a courier on cctv pulling up at my house, taking a photo of the front door (through their car window) and then driving straight off!
I assume they get paid twice if they have to make two trips to an address.0 -

I once got an email saying that I hadn't been in for a delivery when I was actually out working in the front garden.
I phoned the company to ask what they were playing at and they sent me a photo of 'my front door' (it was nothing like my front door). The photo had been taken really oddly though almost as if they were deliberately trying to avoid showing the house number.
I pulled the Exif data from the photo and noticed it had coordinates - the door was actually 25 miles from my house (I found it on Streetview).
I always wondered how many times they had got away with using that trick when they couldn't be bothered to do a delivery!0 -
Our Royal Mail postie used to do that "while you were out card" trick until I chased after him one day and he had to admit he didn't even have the parcel with him as he "assumed" I'd be out. He never did it again!0

+1 on this also. Small but fairly heavy package, he was only a few doors down and he didn't have it.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
My son said it happened to him with a delivery too.0

I think all delivery companies do it to be fair. I remember it happening to me about 20 years ago in London. That was for a heavy bit of gym kit and I guess the guy just didn't want the hassle of loading it on his van and unloading it at mine so used the sorry we missed you to get me to go pick up from the depot
Out here in the country the delivery guys are fantastic ( in my experience ) One even rang me to tell me that because I wasn't there he had hidden my parcel in a particular spot and had signed for it himself because he knew it was a phone and I would be wanting it that day
Most just open the front door and put the parcels in the lobby or if we are out and the door is locked, they plonk them in the garage. But then we are in the country and its common place to leave doors unlocked0 -

You say fantastic but many would be up in arms by what you term as fantastic.0 -
Yes, I was less than impressed by a postie signing for a special delivery letter containing a 10k cheque then leaving it on the porch floor with the door open in full fire of the street.
That one merited a formal complaint. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
