Really appreciate all responses everyone, ultimately its giving me ideas and please do not be insulted if i explain my reasons for not pursuing certain ideas.

So far the watch is really interesting me, as its about time, and i can put it in a safe, which she'l need the code for, all kinda links together, but keep the ideas coming, i got a budget of 1k and i can really make this grand (no. Pun intended) with great ideas

Theres no such thing as a bad idea.

I saw somewhere the following idea: give the gift of time for the coming year, 12 envelopes with one idea in each one of them on how to spend a special day together once per month. You give your time as a gift and make memories. Could you combine this with the watch? Or plan one big activity every year for the next 10 years? It can be something involving the whole family. If you Google it you'll find ideas about the "gift of time". The envelopes can be in a locked box she needs the code to unlock.

You have done a great job so far with planning this!

Thank you, regrettably I am not the same person i was ten years ago, life and Responsibilities takes its toll, and has pressures on relationships, nevertheless this was what i anticipated and aim to restore that young and free spirit we once had

Getting her current ring size should be easy - suggest to her that you visit a jewellers together to get her current ring(s) sized up as you've noticed they seem a bit tight: new size part of the service.

Where did you go after the wedding - if you enjoyed it, could you go there again and take the family with you?
  • Could you make a new video? Based on your life now? You could include your children and places you like to go together. The code could be the pin to start the video and you could end the video with somewhere special you have hidden the watch.

Ring size, yes i could try but i think it would bea big giveaway, she knows me too well

A getaway would be hard to do as a surprise, so much out of my control in that sense.

The video idea ive considered, based on last ten years, still thinking it may work, altho the pin aspect i wouldnt know how to incorporate, although would be amazing if i knew how to pull off!

If your kids are still 'young and clingy' I am sure your wife would love it if you could have time away together for just the two of you, a spa day with some treatments followed by a really nice meal and hotel. You have time to get the children used to you going out (could have a few evenings out/cinema where they are looked after by someone they know).

For my partners 40th birthday we stayed at Le Manoir, it was expensive but worth every penny, and like you we had young children so it made it even more special as it meant we weren't just being Mum and Dad.

The concerns i have with time away, not just the kids, but its half term February 2021, basically i can't book next years holiday at work until jan 2021, im not guaranteed to get it off, and a holiday etc i would need to book in advance, it makes things more complicated.

We usually book a getaway, like a city break, with the kids in tow, but thats after ive confirmed i get the time off and with a months notice

For something i want to guarantee for that particular year,, its too much of a risk to take

    So far, my plan is:

Get a diamond type watch, hopefully with jewels encrusted, similar to the wedding ring

And multiple Gift of Time cards, each sealed seperately in an envelope, which she picks throughout the year or years, things like watch the sunrise together , have a picnic, whatever she picks, i organise etc.

These items can be put into a safe - ebay sell electronic safes for about £20, she'll need the code to access the safe

Thats what i have in mind

Although any more ideas im all ears!
