Old Style Daily 2nd January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning all
The first working day of the year and DH has gone in early and taken my car it's still dark so not sure what the weathers like yet just having a cuppa before i take the girls out. The bin men have already been round so i can start refilling the recycling bin for next week:o Tesco delivery later and a delivery from AO of the new microwave for me and breakfast set for DD2 I suppose I should start to take the xmas decs down I would have started yesterday but I seem to have lost my mojo and spent the day relaxing(drinking wine and eating chocolate):D
Hope you all have a good day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini0 -
Good morning, it's dark, cold and damp here. Thanks Bella Bella for starting off.
I did a long post yesterday and lost it, and was going to post again later but forgot.
Hope everyone had a good NYE anyway.
We'll have to get in to the dreary task of taking down the decorations today, might split it over 2 days, we have a lot of stuff up. We'll see how we feel.
I don't need to go out today, though I might take my books back to the library, I think they re open today.
I think there's some heavy duty cleaning needed, I've used Christmas as an excuse for just skimming over things, but the dust is starting to show. Hey Ho, it'll all get done, but not all today.
Take care folks0 -

Thanks for the thread bellabella and hugs to all those in need.
Have a good day everyone.

Good morning folks.
Thanks for starting us off bella.
After my short excursion to see Buffalo Bill yesterday :rotfl: today I’m meeting up with the lovely Camelot for coffee and chat. It’s been seven weeks since she came to visit me in hospital - seems so long ago.
I spent a quiet evening watching TV. In the end I couldn’t stay awake long enough to finish off MI so recorded the last hour. It’s ridiculously long.
There’s still plenty of food in the fridge so only one thing to buy and an order to collect from Marks, just a late Christmas present which will get handed over on Monday.
Now I wish everyone a happy Thursday.0 -
Morning folks and thanks BELLA for the new thread. All peaceful outside weatherwise again. The recycling wheelie is out for collection and thankfully no wind to blow the rubbish around. Mine is almost full thanks to DD bringing a load of her recycling up as her wheelie was full!
I feel a lot more human than I did yesterday morning after my very late and sleepless night so NY resolutions start today! Top of the list is to eat more sensibly after 2 weeks of gluttony!
I want to get the tree and decs down today for my first job. I shall miss all the twinkling lights but will still be burning my candles. The boxes will have to live upstairs until either DS or DD can put them back in the loft for another year.
A store cupboard and freezer assessment will follow as, once again, I want to get stocks down. They all look as full as they ever did and I must live out of them for a while to keep the sm bills down for a while. As usual I spent far too much on Christmas presents and want to get some cash back in the bank.
GERS Buffalo Bill visited our small town too. Quite why, as we are hardly centre of the universe, I don't really know! He came first in 1891 with all the animals, Indians etc and then again in 1903 with his mounted warriors of the world show. It is said it took 4 specially commissioned trains to bring them all here!! We don't have a statue of him to commemorate the spectacular occasions but I do have a postcard lol!
Right must crack on. Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care one and all, new friends and old. xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning all x
Well back to normal today as DH and dd are both back at work. It means I can get on and tidy without it being a mess 2 mins later.
Taking dog out for a walk when it's light enough.
Wm is on and windows have been wiped of condensation.
Need to make some more bread today as fast as I make it they eat it lol.
I am trying to get all my jobs done in the morning so I can spend the afternoon crafting as I started some new embroidery just before Xmas.
Right better get on as dog is demanding my attention.
Hugs to all in need xBright Blessings xx0 -
Good morning.
Had a lovely afternoon yesterday, and the visitors between them finished off all the bought-for-Christmas goodies, so that's temptation out of the way.
I can't start dieting yet though because today I'm going out for lunch, and possibly a glass of wine!, as a pre theatre treat with a friend. We're going to see Guys and Dolls so that will liven us up. Will try not to sing on the train home.
Have a good day all.0 -
Good morning everyone, just getting light here but lots of cloud.
I had a reasonably productive day yesterday. I cleaned the kitchen including scrubbing and shining the hob and did some hoovering and leaf-raking. In the evening OH made a stir fry with duck and I had to redo the hob. I'd forgotten how much grease is in a bit of duck. That's most of the special food used up, just some cheese and smoked salmon left, possibly some crisps but I rarely eat them so not sure.
I still have the oven to do and the hob filters, will do those today. My decorations will stay up until the weekend.
Welcome Patentgirl.
Hoping that everyone has a good day today.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
It's very windy out this morning. I had to close the bedroom window at 4.30 as it was so noisy.
Went to friends yesterday for a New Year dinner and very nice it was too. The Mister of the house makes a fantastic steak pie - something I wouldn't normally eat but it's so good! I took some frozen deserts I had in the freezer so that's them out of the way and more room in the freezer.
Looking forward to meeting the lovely Gers this morning, glad it wasn't yesterday as someone had parked over the driveway so couldn't get my car out, not that I needed to, it's just not very thoughtful of them.
Banking done and I've counted my £1 coins so they can go to the bank tomorrow.
Take care. XX0 -
Morning everyone
My first day back to work since 20th so not looking forward to it. Make matters worse ST car wasn't working so he has took mind debated about bus or train both about 20 minute walk from house but remembered one of the girls comes my way to work although slightly different time so she is picking me up and coming early bless her.
Very quiet BY for us mainly as I wasn't well enough but at least saved some money. Have good day everyone xFrugal challenge 2025
