Replacement/Upgrade for Motorola G5

I've read Susan1942's thread below and I am having a similar quandry!
My Moto G5 is a couple of years old now and I have been very happy with it. I use it daily for making calls and texts and for facebook/banking/browsing the internet. I also take quite a few photos - I now use my phone rather than my digital camera when on holiday these photos usually get uploaded to facebook. I have an external memory card inserted on the phone for storage of the photos.
I find that I'm running out of space for Apps (the internal storage is only 16GB) and the battery doesn't seem to last as long as it used to (or perhaps I'm using the phone more when I'm out and about).
I was thinking of upgrading to the Moto G6 Plus (around £100) which I think should meet my needs. Is my thinking on this correct or does the forum think I should be looking at something else? Would the Moto G7 Power be better albeit more expensive or would I be spending extra money needlessly?
Any help and suggestions appreciated.

How long is a piece of string?
Of course, G7 is better that G6, that is better than G5, but only you know what you need. Don't forget, that they are bigger and heavier as well.

What's the capacity of your memory card? Have you moved as many apps as possible to it?
Your phone can take a card up to 256Gb, and 128Gb cards are about just £15 now.
And you are lucky to have a phone with a removable battery that you can easily replace. In newer phones the battery is non-removable.0 -
I would go for the latest Moto G you can afford and then you will be covered for security updates longer.
The G8 has just come out and is a little expensive so I would go for the G7 Play which you can get for £110 or less https://www.carphonewarehouse.com/motorola/g7-play.html#!colour=blue&capacity=32GB&dealType=sf
I do not need any more than 32gb storage. I have got numerous photos and mp3's stored 'free' using my Google account. If you need more information I am sure someone will help you here.0 -
grumbler: thanks for your advice which is really helpful - especially the comparison table. My memory card is 32GB of which about 4GB is being used for photo storage. I haven't moved any Apps over to the memoory card - I didn't know that I could! Will have to research how to do this.
Joe9090: thanks for your advice and the carphonewarehouse link0 -

Be careful. If you are formatting the SD card to run as internal storage on mobile (for Apps) you will lose these photos0 -

But surely backing up photos to Google Photos, means that there's not a problem?
On holiday over Christmas, I was fiddling with my Gallery and ended up accidentally deleting photos from it. I was in a panic, but went to Google and they were all there.
And by the way, if you don't want to go to a bigger handset, I recently bought a G6 from Argos ebay for £99. It's a bigger screen than the G5 Plus I'm currently using, but because of the reduction in size top and bottom of the handset, it is only fractionally bigger overall.David.0 -

that's a great price. i bought this phone last March on it's release date from Amazon at £179 and still think that was good value!!
Fantastic battery life and my favourite handset overall that i've owned (and i have had iphones and samsungs in the past).0 -
I bought the G8 Plus and really like it..it is bigger and a bit heavier as well but I am fine with that. I paid..£192 on a 24 hour special deal. The price has gone up again to £235 with.Amazon
carphone.warehouse and John Lewis have it for £1990 -
Hi,
I've been looking at the Moto G phones and see you can get the G7 Power for £130 from John Lewis or the G8 Plus for £200. I'd be interested to hear whether you think the G8 is worth the extra £70 or not? From what I have read there isn't much difference between the two other than perhaps a better camera?0
