Lomcevak said:One thing I found helpful with emergency funds is to keep 'emergencies' and 'loss of income' separate, even though it's tempting to lump them together in one big 'emergency fund'.
That's a thing to think about too - thanks for posting that!

Needhelpsaving said:Hi, I'm just delurking to say we did the same thing as Lomcevak with our emergency fund. We do keep it as a big lump sum, just because that works for our household. Again, we worked out what we would need as a bare bones to cover our household expenses - we even discussed what could be removed if in dire straits (TV package, swimming lessons etc) and we worked on saving a month of expenses at a time as well.

No April Fools here; it's ridiculous enough without adding anything else to the mix!As it's the 1st of the month most of our DDs have gone out which leaves me with the funds we have for the rest of the month. I have already done an OP of £204.25 which is probably going to be it for OPs this month. I aim to save £700 in savings/investments and then anything extra will be sent to our EF. I think that overall spending will be down, though our food budget will probably increase. Got my trusty budget planner all set up to track it though so I am ready for whatever it throws at us.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I really like seeing my mortgage balance down and didn't get as much or a sense of achievement putting it in an emergency fund but knew it was needed and evn more so now.
What I do... Although probably not right is set myself targets of OP by X amount and adding X amount to the EF and therefore it kinda feels like one goal. My current goal is to get my EF to 5k and my mortgage down below 150k. The mortgage will be below 150k for the first time tomorrow... Very excited about that and EF is very nearly 5k but will be topped up with next month's wages. I will then set a new target for OP and EFMortgage Aug 2019 161,000 :eek::eek:Nov 2019 156,500:T Jan 2020 153,122:T, Apr 2020 149,500, Apr2021 139, 675, Oct 2021 136,823, Dec 2021 136,120🙂EF 0/12,000 (0%)😕 (5062.44 was ERC), Jan 2023 128,650. Our Mortgage is never going to be as high as it is today. :jOnwards and downwards to a better life for our family. :jJust keep swimming7 -
I definitely need to set short term goals otherwise it's going to be too overwhelming, I think.

April 2nd.Today has been the most difficult day yet, though I'm not sure why. I feel very emotional and just don't have any energy. The boys have squabbled on and off all day and they're fed up of only being in our house and garden. I have tried my best - we've done a treasure hunt round the house and built sandcastles in the garden - but I have found it tough today.Money wise, DH has been to Asda this afternoon and spent just over £23 so that's our first spend of April. Not sure when he'll go next - probably Sunday. I miss going food shopping! In fact, there are lots of things that I am missing now. Just need to remember I'm not stuck at home, I'm safe at home.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

April 3rd.Today has been better. We have had quite a lazy day really; drawing, numbers, dancing to YT videos and then just letting them have independent play. I think it's important and both of them have played lovely together for the most part.I've had a bolognese sauce bubbling away in the SC all day. We're going to have it with spaghetti tonight for tea and then there should be two further meals from it that I will freeze. One will become lasagne next week I think
with some salad if I can get it!
I transferred £8.81 into our emergency fund this morning; just rounding down our current account.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

April 5th.Hope you've had a good weekend? It's been quite quiet here which is goodDH has been food shopping today and got some petrol, so that's us set up for the week ahead. Here's hoping anyway - both DS' seem to want snacks every single minute of the day! I am trying to ration them but it can be tricky. Sometimes it's easier to give in....Another £11.53 to the EF this weekend - plodding along.Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
