Old Style Daily 1st January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

    Happy New Year everyone _party_:wave:_party_:hello:

I'll keep it down in case any of you have a sore head :D. I had a nice and quiet New Year's Eve, just about managed to stay up to watch the fireworks and then crawled into bed. The grandchildren are arriving at 7.30 so I thought I might as well get up and let Steve and the kids have a lie in.

We had a nice chat about things good and bad that happened last year and we both have a very positive outlook for this year. Steve doesn't make resolutions but I love a list so I have made mine.

Steve got my card making stuff out of the attic and I was really pleased to see how much of it had survived. I am just waiting for some new card stock and I will be ready to go. I can't remember who said they had ordered a new die cutter but I am curious as to which one you have got. I have a Big Shot, a Sidekick, an electric Cricut machine and another one that I can't remember what it is called but I just use for embossing. They all have their different good points and I really enjoyed using them before.

We had stew yesterday so today is going to be spaggy bol. I deliberately didn't buy a jarred sauce so Steve can learn to make one from scratch. He is a very good cook and open to learning new recipes and this way, we can get loads of veg into it as well.

Well, I am off for a cup of tea before we are invaded :D, Wishing you all a very Happy New Year!!

    Welcome Happycas :coffee: :D

I hope your heads aren't too sore this morning! I'm fine because I drank tea and fell asleep on the sofa before 10pm, lol.

The chickens weren't cleaned out properly yesterday, after weeks of no eggs from any of them, one decided to make herself comfortable in a nesting box as soon as she woke up. I don't know if any of you have tried to get near a chicken when she's laying? It's quite scary :D She stayed there for quite a while so I gave up and will attempt another clean-up this morning.

As soon as I woke up this morning, I took my old calendar down to copy birthdays etc. onto the new one. Realised I hadn't printed the new one. Opened it on the laptop to print it, realised I hadn't finished it :rotfl:

I feel a bit slow and fuzzy this morning, it'll be all the rubbish I ate over the last two days. I'll fill my plate with veg today and snack on fruit, that'll sort me out. I'll still find room for a bit of chocolate, some of it was bought for me for Christmas so it'd be incredibly rude not to eat it :D

I missed the end of the last episode of The Witcher (fab program, even though I have no idea what's going on half the time) so will catch up with that later. Then find a film to watch while we laze about on the sofas for the afternoon :D

    Good morning from me too.

After watching James Bond I fell asleep and have just woken up! I heard the fireworks but they didn't rouse me enough to get up to look. Earlier in the evening I had traded messages with my family in Australia, South Korea and Germany as well as a bunch of friends here.

I had made a whole load of red cabbage which I paired with the duck dish I bought by mistake the other day. Surprisingly DM ate some and really enjoyed it. Today I'll cook the venison joint, glad to hear that it's good.

If the weather is not too horrid I want to go out for a wee stroll, we'll, more of a hobble still but at least I need fresh air. As I've spent seven weeks being fairly inactive I'm beginning to put on weight again and I can't allow that to happen. It's back to 'old clothes and porridge' here!

For now I wish everyone a peaceful and stress free 2020. May all your hopes and dreams come true, or at least come close to it.

Happy New Year and a happy Wednesday to start it off. :j

Woke up with a panic attack this morning, I hate it when that happens.

Good morning and Happy New Year everyone!

I had a nap after dinner last night and then got up to see in the new year with my little family, crash bang wallop of fireworks all around. OH did the first footing and had a glass of scotch, I didn't want a drink as we had wine with dinner.

Today I'm doing g breakfast, scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and OH is doing something or other with duck breasts for dinner. I might do some more paperwork if I feel like it but there is no rush.

I hope everyone has a good day today.

    Morning All

Happy New Year! I hope the year brings you health and happiness.

I didn't stay up and like Gers I heard the fireworks but fell asleep again quickly. Must have needed a good nights sleep after the last busy few days.

Lovely day yesterday, went for a walk with DD, partner and Sophie along the sea front, it was sunny but oh so cold, we had chips on the pier! It was foggy most of the day at home but over the hill and only 8 miles away it was glorious.

The house is clean and tidy, just the children's beds to make but no hurry for that.

    Welcome Happycas!

Have a good day, take care. XX

Happy New Year! Hester, I hope you are feeling ok now.

Only just woken up, I must have needed the sleep, but I don’t like sleeping in so late, makes me feel lethargic.

Yesterday was a busy day of deep cleaning our sitting room, so it looks lovely. Unfortunately, the detritus has moved to the small bedroom, so this needs to be tackled today. I need to be ruthless and get stuff out of the house.

Also, I need to check my bank balance and work on a menu plan. Like others, I need to get back to my healthy eating. I am not going to weigh myself, but I know I have put some pounds on. I managed to lose 2 stones last year and I wish to lose another 2 this year. I have my diabetes review due and I wish for favourable results.

    Take care all.

  • Morning folks and A Happy New Year one and all.

I was a dirty stop out last night and didn't get in until 2.00 am!!! I'd had such a good time down at DDs playing the silliest games. It;s a long time since I laughed so much. A game called Speak Out, where you have to put a plastic mouth piece in and try and read a silly message from a card had us all in stitches. Another, a bit like charades with the message passed on by drawing it, caused just as much hilarity. None of us are artists!

I feel half doped this morning after my late night and I fear I shall fall at the first hurdle with my planned resolutions!!! I'll start them tomorrow! Like Peony I am avoiding the scales but I can tell I have piled on the pounds with all the silly eating. So easy to put weight on but not so easy to shift sadly!

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all who need them. Take care xx
