Thanks, all, for your feedback on facemasks.  I’ve amended the first post to specifically say they’re coupon free.

I am slooooowly getting closer to my sewing machine... ;)

I've been knitting like a mad thing (knitted one stranded colourwork, picot-hem, ankle-sock in 5 days and the other in 2 days - that's not normal!), and am distinctly edging my way towards the Singer and that poor shell-pink satin dressing-gown that was cut out two years ago and sewn partially together in February, and has been hanging on the sitting-room door ever since, with its cut-out-unsewn sleeves and cuffs tucked into the hanger...

I've lost my confidence somehow, but I *want* to sew... I just keep putting it off in case I mess it all up...

  • I get like that Laura, but once as I get the machine set up on the table I find I’m wanting to sew. It’s often the thought of clearing the dining table and getting it out that puts me off. In my next house I’m going to have a craft room. Your skills are amazing, I was so impressed with the way you remodelled that shirt.

Just get set up and start sewing Laura.  You know you can do it.  If you've got as far as you have you can obviously sew!  I always think the hardest bit is cutting out as you need a much bigger space to do that than you do to sew!

I'm so glad I've got a room where my machines are already set up and just need to be uncovered to use them, although they haven't got much use apart from facemarks recently.  Still have another 2 cut out ready to sew - and they've been there for about a week now and I just haven't got round to doing them.

Yes, me too, @joedenise.  I also think that's the most nerve-wracking bit, since you can't unpick it or fix it, if you cut something wrong.

Coupon Spend for me that was yarn *SHOCK HORROR*
Leggings and a non wired crop top bra type thing? 2 and 3 respectively?
    I'll go with that LOL
All this talk of sewing machines has me debating getting mine out but only for sewing some little drawstring bags for the soaps I make. I have been buying them in (very cheaply which makes me think I'm paying for someone's awful conditions in a sweatshop somewhere) so I think whilst it'll take me more time and more money, I'd rather not contribute to that.... They only need to be about 7cm x 10cm. Since I'm a virtual beginner - think its been plugged in twice and always with my mum (machine goddess) present.... but my mind is telling me this should be easy...

  • Drawstring bags are the easiest thing to make, they are a great starter project and will get you wanting to try more.  You can make them out of recycled fabric as well. There are loads of YouTube videos, start with a simple straight up and down and then you can move on to creating box shapes, lining them etc.

I have just ordered half a metre of fabric on eBay (oops, I had better log a coupon or two for that). I am planning to make some little make up bags for Christmas, and this is a sugar skull design which I know my niece will like. I have lots of fabric in my stash but nothing suitable for a Goth. This will probably be a zipper pouch, also very easy to do. I sometimes line bags with bits of old shower curtain to make them waterproof.

I am really hankering after a Horn sewing cabinet. I keep looking on eBay, realistically I don’t have the room for an extra piece of furniture at the moment without getting rid of something. Does anyone have one, and are they as good as they look?

My mum used to have one when I was a teenager but no idea what happened to it!  We probably got rid of it when she died nearly 20 years ago as neither my sister nor I were sewing then nor had the room for an extra bit of furniture.  I'd love one too but they are so expensive.  I saw a lovely one at the Sewing Show in February but it was about £1000!  I can't justify that when my old desk top works just as well, although the machines aren't hidden.  I keep my fabric stash in some drawers at the bottom of a wardrobe plus some on top of a small cabinet but that's the material I've been using for the facemasks.

  • As it's June 30th could I possibly join in with half the coupons like missychrissy is?

I'm knitting dk walking boot socks with stash yarn and then have 4ply stash yarn to knit a further pair of socks. After that I'll be investing in Lettlopi for a hat and glove knitting. I do like to knit sweaters so I'm a little bit apprehensive as to whether I can keep within the coupon limits because of that but I will enjoy trying.
