    @missychrissy and @Laura_Elsewhere - now you're both making me wish for somewhere to set up my sewing machine!  I think the suitcase with my fabric stash went missing when we renovated a decade ago, but there might be something in the blanket box in the hall. (We had most of our stuff in storage.  DH forgot to put some things back in the storage unit, when he was rearranging stuff, including a free-standing fan that would be most welcome right now...).

    I really like the range of Pavers shoes but they don't do half sizes and I am definitely a half size.  They do free delivery and you can buy a pre-paid returns label for 99p so I would happily buy if they did my size.  Hotter will, I think, survive as an internet/mail order operation but they charge 2.95 per item delivery and 2.50 per item returns.  That's an expensive trying on charge if you end up not keeping the shoes so I don't think I'll be ordering much from them if I can't try on in a shop or collect from and return to a shop

    I ended up sending back both pairs so I still have 31 coupons
    It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

    @maryb - Pity the shoes didn't work out, but it's better to return them than to waste coupons, money and resources.

    I need opinions, please, as to the points value of something.  I've just ordered this vest top with built in bra from Bravissimo. Does it count as a "Blouse, shirt, sports top, cardigan or jumper" costing 5 coupons or as "Other garments including corsets" costing 3 coupons?

    Thanks,

    Pip

  • That is a tricky one: less fabric and manufacturing effort than a blouse or cardigan, but more than a bra.

    I suggest splitting the difference and calling it a between-top, for 4 coupons.
    2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:
    January (29): winter boots, green trainers, canvas swimming-shoes (15); t-shirt x2 (8); 3m cotton twill (6);
    .
    2025 second-hand acquisitions (no coupons): None thus far
    .
    2025 needlework- *Reverse-couponing*:11 coupons :
    January: teddybear-lined velvet jacket (11) & hat (0); velvet sleep-mask (0);
  • I think I’d agree with the compromise, four coupons sounds right.  I love Bravissimo clothes, I don’t often indulge myself but that looks like a good investment. Sorry, no pun intended!
    Earlier this year I bought some shoes, well ankle boots actually, from Josef Seibel, they are also good for wide feet and they do half sizes.  Some of the shoes come with removable insoles, which is important for me as I have got orthotic insoles that I like to put in instead.
    Sadly at the moment I can only wear two pairs of shoes, the ankle that I sprained eight weeks ago is still quite swollen and although I can walk on it much better I can only wear clogs or very low-sided shoes. Luckily I’m not going anywhere much at the moment and even more luckily one of the two pairs was just about suitable for work. My off-duty shoes are mostly quite brightly coloured!

  • I do hope that Hotter continue. Paver are no good for me because like maryb I am a half size. I’ve checked out Josef Seidel but they don’t do a 5 and a half. I can get away with a 6 in a boot and wear thick socks or go down to a 5 in an open sandal but I need an extra wide 5 n a half in a shoe.
    I sympathise PollyWollyDoodle I broke my ankle (fibula) nearly 2 years ago. Although it didn’t swell much it was very painful. I limped around on it for 2 weeks before the pain drove me to A n E. Babysitting at one of my son’s houses with 3 floors and a staircase like a lighthouse was the end of me. I even tried to walk the dog on the second week but I didn’t  get to the end of the street. It took 6 weeks to get back to relative normality with just twinges. Funnily enough I sprained the same ankle about 30 years ago.
