@Laura_Elsewhere, may I suggest you are undervaluing your talents?
They are really lovely and I'm sure the recipients will be delighted, and while people might have given jokey reasons for wanting them, perhaps the fact that they've opened up with real reasons shows they trust you with things that matter to them.
On another note and definitely not wanting you to suffer, turmeric is probably not rationed and I find adding a small amount to food helps reduce a couple of tender joints where I have (rather mild) arthritis. It may be worth a try as you are struggling so much with the ribbing.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
The sun's been out and I think I’m solar powered (Onebrokelady)

Tell you what, Laura, how about I do some knitting & you do some quilting this week, instead?! I've just finished cot quilt no. 5's top, and will sandwich, bind & quilt tomorrow, then I shall be perfectly happy not to see a sewing machine again for a while! But I have definitely managed to bust some stash over the last 4 weeks, so I'm happy; however the sewing room looks like it's survived (probably) a magnitude 7 earthquake. There have been several avalanches... time for a really big sort out, my brother's sleeping in there on Boxing Day!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)7

They look lovely. I might need to knit myself tubes to wear whilst typing - unfortunately, we seem to be running low on coal as the heat at work is rarely actually warm when it gets cold out. Laura - that was fast. I like the colour of the maroon / purple ones. I wish I was making similar progress on my Christmas hat knitting. I'm sure the recipients will be warm and toasty with those.

I know how you feel, @TwibbleDee. I used to sit under an air conditioning vent, which would blow directly down onto my mouse mat. Frequently in summer, you’d find me wearing a short-sleeve tee-shirt and a fingerless mitt on my right hand. (Yes, I know it looked odd, but my hand would get freezing cold and ache.)
There’s a detailed pattern for fingerless mitts on my blog, but here is my formula. You can knit them flat and seam up or in the round, but I’ll write this for in the round. You need about 40g of yarn:
Using 2.5mm DPNs and 4-ply/fingering-weight yarn, cast on 56 stitches. Place a marker where you start your round. Work 15 rounds in K2P2 rib. Swap to whatever lace/texture pattern you want to use and work in that until at least 50 rounds completed then create the hole for your thumb by working flat for the next 16 rounds (e.g. knit to your marker, turn and purl back to the marker). Return to knitting in the round for another 10-15 rounds then work K2P2 rib for 10 rounds and cast off. Work the second mitt, the same.
You can make the arm section longer by adding more rounds. Ditto the bit covering your fingers.

Finished quilt-lette:
It's a bit smaller than the others, but I did want to use the pretty posies from a badly-stained old tablecloth! And those were the last ones I could cut to size (4½" square) though there are a few lopsided ones left; they'll go into cards. It's pretty wobbly but I'm quite happy with it, considering it was flung together in two days from concept to binding; it's made to be used & washed and loved until it falls apart. Now all I need is - a grandchild! Maybe one day... but I keep telling the Offspring, no rush, wait until you're settled & happy & solvent!Angie - GC Aug25: £106.61/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)8 -
