Love the parachute silk reference. My dad was in the RAF all his life and kept my mum well supplied with the stuff. She made nightdresses, slips, knickers and baby dresses for me after the war. Being a good dressmaker was a boon and I'm sure she made wedding dresses.
Keep safe everyone.8 -
Afternoon All.
I have a confession to make. I fell off the wagon on my yarn diet. I blame Deramores, who not only had a 20% off promotion over the weekend but gave me a coupon for £1-something off.... Anyway, I couldn't resist, so bought another ball of West Yorkshire Spinners Signature Sock Yarn in Liquorice (that's "black" to the rest of the world). This means I now have 3 balls of black in my stash, so can knit a jumper. Any luck, it'll be the same dye lot as the last ball. I am kicking myself that I didn't buy two balls, because that'd guarantee I could knit a long-sleeve jumper, with leftovers for socks. IF I have coupons left AND IF they have another promotional weekend before Christmas, I may buy another one.

@PipneyJane is this where I mention the 7% cashback at Deramores on TopCashback...? (sorry, sorry - now I feel like a Purple Bricks advert!)
I am in awe of your svelte slenderness - I can't imagine 3 or 4 balls of wool being enough to knit me a jumper!
Anyway... buying the odd ball of yarn is a pretty minor slip. It's not like you went and bought 15 balls of the stuff, is it?2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Laura - I feel your pain with the tights, don't wear nylons either, too easily snagged - woolly / knitted tights / leggings here. As its your trousseau - I think some coupon gifting may be needed.Hat coming on now its actually being knitted - interesting to see what the yarn is knitting up like. So far there hasn't been a repeat on the colours and I am well over half way. i was wondering about trying a pair off mittens with the same yarn but suspect they would look like odd ones....

Evening All
I have another spend to declare: 2 coupons spent on a pair of “running gloves”, £9.99 in C0stco. They’re fleece lined and have that metallic thread in the fingers which means you don’t have to take you glove off to use your phone. I did try - and failed - to find a suitable pair in the basket of miscellaneous gloves, scarves and hats that lives by the front door, and I was contemplating knitting a pair. Up until now, I’ve been running in fingerless mitts, but last week’s cold snap brought home to me that I need something to cover my fingers and I need them now, not in 3 or 4 weeks after knitting them.

Depending on how large the ball is, would it be possible to split it into smaller balls - or use two fresh, separate ones - so that you can start each mitten on the same colour repeat?
In my knitting news, I’ve been knitting the Lady’s Lacy Jumper for 7 days now, and I already have 7 inches done on the body. (I’m knitting in the round.) It’s amazing how much faster you can go when you don’t have to pattern something on every round.

Pip, how are you getting on with your running? I have restarted Couch to 5K, it’s been six months since I sprained my ankle and it’s only now that it feels safe to run on. I am doing it with a friend which really helps, we try and do two out of three runs together. We should have been starting Week 3 tomorrow, but she hasn’t been able to do her third run so we are going to do Week 2 Run 3 together, it will mean I’m repeating a run but I don’t mind. I have promised myself that if I can run all the way through lockdown, when the shops reopen I will treat myself to some decent running shoes.
Regarding the gloves, did you know that you can buy conductive thread (I’m not sure that’s the right name!)? I think I got mine on eBay, I just stitched a bit into the fingertip of an ordinary pair of gloves and it made them work for using the phone. Worth thinking about if you need another pair at some point.Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.4 -
Hi Pip,I'm nearly at the top of the hat and the bit of wool on the ball that I can see next doesn't look like it repeats yet either. It's bit ball (200g) so don't really want to buy another. I will see what the wool looks like further on. I intend to make some mittens for myself out of it and for me it won't matter if they don't match as such. Will see what the ball looks like further on. Its odd - the wooerl hasn't knitted up like i expected at all from the colours on n the outside of the ball - but it looks nice but perhaps the hat's recipient will change as a result - will see what it looks like when finished.Polly - Thanks for the tip on the conductive thread - I didn't know it was available.2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons5
