Pip, I have just checked out the Celtic Sheepskin website; oh how I wish I hadn't! Generally speaking I don't think much about clothes, I just wear what makes me feel comfortable but EVERYTHING on that website looks really warm and comfy and I want it all !!!!
Last year I bought one new item of clothing, an organic cotton dress on December 22nd, so this year I might have to save up my pennies and use last year's and this year's coupons, and possibly next year's as well!5 -
"I know a 93 year old who was still going out shopping on the bus every day until lockdown."
When I was working in social housing for the elderly, one of my tenants broke her wrist falling off the table she was dancing on. On her 94th birthday...
ETA: I've never been a runner, mainly because they simply hadn't invented the underwear (i.e. sports bra) I'd have needed when younger, and I also have "dodgy" hip joints, one having been totally replaced when I was just 50. But I do dance... and I'm convinced that a 7-minute Egyptian shimmy does quite a lot to keep you fit!Angie - GC Aug25: £292.26/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)6 -

My lifelong ambition is to be thrown out of the nursing home when I’m in my 90’s for corrupting everyone. It was inspired by an elderly lady I met while I was nursing. She was hospitalised because she’d broken her shoulder and her daughter (aged 74) couldn’t cope with looking after mum. I think she was 98. She ran rings around her daughter.
Serious dancing does keep you fit and strong. I have a good friend who does competition ballroom dancing. Can’t keep up with her.

PipneyJane said: If it helps, a couple of times a year, L!dl sell their strength bands, which come complete with a workout sheet. You get three different bands with different levels of resistance in each pack. They aren't expensive (<£15) and are as good as using free weights. I just need to get into the habit of using them on my non-running mornings. Not sure when they'll next be on sale; I think the last time was May.
I really wish I'd kept up my dancing, too - never mind, that's one to restart if the tales above are anything to go by! When I worked with older people I met a lady who had taught herself to use the computer and the only reason she wasn't holidaying abroad was lockdown... she was in her 90s. Incidentally at about the same time I met someone who was born in the 'Spanish Flu' pandemic. Imagine that! a hundred and one...

Hello all just a quick update. I have finished my niece's Christmas present. I didn't do the jeans outfit because when I had finished knitting the cardigans and showed my Mum what I had done she said that what I had done was plenty and we shouldn't spoil her too much. I'm now knitting some bedsocks for my friend's pamper hamper. As for my clothing situation I got myself fitted for some trainers which I have given my Mum to give me for Christmas. As its a present, no coupons. so I still have 24 coupons left. That's it from me for now.

I may have strayed slightly from the original as I came across this: "...a 5m max resistance gold band, which will be handy for flinging rocks at castle during sieges even if you never summon up the strength to use it in your workouts."

Now THAT would be perfect, particularly as we have at least one historical re-enactor on here.
We can also use it as a defence against the invading hoards, when the zombie apocalypse happens (or the Lockdown Desperate discover we have prepping stashes of supplies/yarn/fabric).

Loving the running chat. I am a runner but since having a baby keep getting injured. I'm on a 38 week return to running pilates programme - 6 weeks down, I think the actual running starts at around week 20! I also like a good You Tube workout (when not injured), especially a barre one, so I can pretend I'm a retired ballet dancer.
Also I have bookmarked Colourmart . . .
I *think* I need some shoes as I have two pairs of flats in rotation which are more or less suitable for work, black ones have holes in (little toe escaping through the side - oops) and are not rescue-able, others are pink and look a bit funny with black tights. I am putting off purchase until I have thoroughly checked all cupboards to make sure I don't have anything lying around that would do. It feels a bit wasteful to buy shoes as I have many, many pairs, but they are all heels and the aforementioned injury (lower back) means heels are out for the time being. I do have plenty of coupons left (30/66 used).
Pip I have nearly finished Lime Street at Two. Thank you for the recommendation, which I would second to anyone. Very interesting, both the dressmaking parts and those about stockings. I have read a fair bit about rationing but most of those books seem to be about people artfully and effortlessly (and legally!) refashioning existing wardrobes and this provided a completely different perspective.4 -
@catherinekate, let me know if you're going to register and buy from Colourmart and I'll PM you my username there, if you'd be kind enough to mention me as a referral, and I think they still offer the free credit that way!
Our 3rd 5-mile hike this week turned out to be 7.5 miles instead of its claimed 6.... but on the plus side, I'm definitely starting to look less like Clarissa Dickson Wright's younger cousin (a cook who did tv series "Two Fat Ladies" with a friend built like her)
Skirt made by me last year, ankle-warmers knitted by me last year; shirt and cap I've had for years...
