Pip, I recently watched an episode Reef Break, with the fantastic Poppy Montgomery, in which a woman was knitting, sitting on a rock on the beach. Poppy, in character, commented about her crochet!2025 Fashion on the ration

Many thanks for the detail about the skirtbrella (love the name). Wrap round style definitely looks the best option for speed and ease of putting on. No experience of dressmaking although I keep saying I should give something simple a try. Don't think I'll go for it on a first attempt but maybe later.I see now what you mean about the "sleeves joined together". I can see it would work under a short sleeved jumper but like Pip I'm not sure about the lack of something under the arm pits if the jumper had shorter sleeves. If it the jumper had no sleeves I'm not sure that it would work and without seeing the capped sleeved jumpers worn, I can't visualise if it would work or not. I suppose an alternative option might be a crop top (or even something a bit shorter) than that with sleeves might be an alternative if you decided something was needed under the armpits or would that be too warm?2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons4

Hello to all,
Its suddenly turned wet, grey and dreary in my corner of the world - and I LOVE IT!
Was definitely made for this weather.
Coupon spends to report - 10! Oh my.... Two jumpers as I wasn't having any luck with ebay. One is a nice cream number with suede effect elbow patches and the other a dark forest green herringbone knit.
I did also order some yarn but on the business side of things so effectively paid for by someone else so I don't count that as a coupon spend.
Off to change my siggy.

@skogar, well my hope is that knitting a pair of sleeves means I can wear the cap-sleeved jumpers over various cap-sleeved blouses and shirts and t-shirts that I have - I have decided to knit them from the cuff upwards so I can work out how long to make them and so on, and if needs be when I get to the top I can always make it a sort of shrug, like a little bolero type thing. I definitely don't want draughts, let alone weird flashes of bare skin in cold weather!
@CAFCGirl - it turned grey and chilly and wet yesterday here and I absolutely love it too!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I think it's turned grey, chilly and wet everywhere! I absolutely hate it - give me the sun and heat any day.

Laura - sounds like you have a cunning plan. :-) Will be good to see what they look like when completed, do you have a colour in mind?Weather miserable here too. I prefer it dry but don't like it really hot. However it is probably a good thing it is raining, I won't be tempted to go out on the push bike so will hopefully get to have another attempt at the problem section on the sock. Laura do you use your skirtbrella for cycling at all?2024 Fashion on the Ration - 3.5/66.5 coupons remaining1 cardigan - 5 coupons13 prs ankle socks - 13 coupons5 prs leggings - 10 coupons4 prs dungarees - 24 coupons1 cord jacket - 11 couponstotal 63 coupons3

The sleeves will be striped! It's mixing together elements from two patterns by Jade Starmore - I'm not using the rest of either pattern but these ideas I really liked.
This is the test piece I knitted, on 3mm DPNs using 4-ply - dark conifer-green, paler sage-green, fawn-brown, red-chestnut, and a caramel-cream. The stripes will be in the first four, with the raised spotted bands between stripes in the cream... the bobbled bands are the cuff - still working out the spacing between bands

Great news on your Intended Laura and good advice.
I'm also in the wet and miserable North East under local lockdown, and liking the sound of Socktober, although I also want to make some knitted pumpkin decorations and a holly hat for the toddler. Down the Ravellry rabbit hole I go.6 -
Last year my son's GF, a trendy young London based woman, asked me if I could knit her something she'd seen, she didn't know what it was called, but drew a picture, we looked it up and it turned out to be a ladies dickie; I found a pattern online, from the 1950s I think, and made one for her. She absolutely loves it and it seems like a really practical item of clothing, the function of a scarf without the bulk. I wondered if anyone had made/worn/ heard of this, I'm 66 , so have been around for a while, but had never come across this before.
PS. I seldom post but read this thread daily and think you're the nicest bunch of people on the internet!6 -
I had to look ip what a dickie was as had no idea. I used to wear something like these back in the 60s under a blouse or V necked sweater. It was more a fashion accessory than anything else but definitely kept the neck warm.
