I spent 8 coupons on a new pair of trousers so 19 spent for the year to date.

Also, without thinking about it properly, I bought 12 fat quarters in the Aldi sewing sale. Since it is 3 coupons per yard and 4 fat quarters in a yard that is 12 more coupons so 31 for the year to date. If I use them for masks (I might) I'll declare and re-deduct.

And have bought some clothes for the toddler (for next summer) in the end of summer sales but am not counting those at present. However most of his clothes are second hand and he'd probably be within his limit!

Pip I have ordered the Helen Forrester book. I used to work in a Liverpool bookshop in the late 90s and her books were very popular but it never occurred to me to read them myself!

I acquired a lot of sewing magazines and some fabric from a lovely lady on our local Freecycle group. One of the articles was about a recent Great British Sewing Bee winner (Claire?) who said that she tried to stick to clothes coupon limits for her new clothing. I was very impressed; dear lady, if you are reading along I don't ask you to declare yourself!

Errr....  As long term readers will know, I have a similar problem with yarn, @catherinekate.   Somehow, you find yourself admiring one skein - or, in your, case fat quarters -  and it multiplies into 10 coupons worth.  My commiserations.

Maybe dungarees?  (It has a 'protective' function.)  Or a man's bathing suit?  (Swimear, but covers more than a lady's would!  IYSWIM :#)
Maybe a mackintosh because it's "technical materials"?
After thinking about it, I vote for "Overalls or dungarees or like garment" at 6 coupons.  Would that be OK with you, @thriftwizard? Do the rest of you agree?

  • I agree, it’s similar in terms of volume of fabric to a pair of overalls.
Not much happening here, but I am determined to knock some of those UFOs off the list this week. Watch this space…

Good luck with the UFO's, @PollyWollyDoodle.

What's the weather like where you are?  It's a bit grim outside down here.  Today, I'm wearing the grey cabled jumper that I knitted earlier in the year.  I'm as warm as toast.

  • The wedding was lovely, thank you! And just in the nick of time - 15 wouldn't even have covered the immediate families as the groom has 4 siblings (+ one partner) and 2 parents, and the bride 4 half- & step- siblings (+ 4 partners) 2 parents & 1 step-parent, which is 18 without the main players themselves! And doesn't include the bride's nephews & nieces. The sun shone & everyone looked amazing & had a brilliant time; it was a real day full of smiles. The hotel - a last-minute bargain - staff were wonderful, the food was excellent, and we did manage to keep to the social distancing rules. OH & I slept up at my friend's in-the-making Air BnB, so that the kids could all be together in the house legally.

No need to stress overly about the wetsuit, really, as I'll acquire one secondhand if at all possible. Normally the local surf schools are offloading them like mad at this time of year, but with the boom in staycations on the South Coast that hasn't happened yet. We'll see what happens when the weather goes downhill! I can see that I have some serious saving to do if I want a kayak of my own anyway. I have to admit to envying my brother's fishing kayak somewhat...

In the meantime, I did acquire a fleece (jacket) whilst camping, but it was from a charity shop, so no coupons incurred!
