Buying a double mattress - HELP

Make sure the mattress protector is a breathable one as mattresses need air to circulate around them. Also make sure that only the part that goes on the top of the mattress is waterproof so that air can easily enter the vents in the side of the mattress.TimBuckTeeth wrote: »It keeps the mattress clean, stops sweat soaking into the mattress and reduces dust mite build-up in the mattress.
After letting the new mattress air for a day or two fit a waterproof protector cover (a flexible one is better than PVC), then fit a padded cover over that. The padded cover can be removed to be washed (as the waterproof ones can be damaged by washing regularly) and will be more comfortable than having a sheet direct over the waterproof cover.
If the mattress is good quality then don't use a padded cover as this can effect the properties of the mattress (especially if it is a memory foam mattress). If the mattress protector has a terry fabric on the outside then comfort is no problem (I bought mine from John Lewis, I think it was about £14).TimBuckTeeth wrote: »I agree that trying out a mattress before buying is essential, I made the mistake of buying one from Argos and I am a bit disappointed with it.
This can only give you a very rough idea if you are going to like a mattress. The best way is to buy from a company that gives a satisfaction guarantee, then you can actually sleep on it for a few nights.0 -

I just wanted to voice my support for http://www.bedsdirect.com
I have seen the poor reviews of them on reviewcentre.com and have to say that i dont agree with what has been posted, infact i went to the point of writing my own review and then trying to hunt down anywhere else that was giving them a rough deal.
I have used them a number of times and gotten fantastic customer service, their prices are competitive and the product range huge, with all the big name brands. They have things in stock that can be delivered next day for free!! You don't get that from a high street shop that has the beds in the warehouse out the back. Ok so i cant try them first, but you give the number a call and all the staff are there to help and advise, not try and sell to you so you get really good advice. The beds in showrooms will have been lay on thousands of times over one weekend so you wont get an accurate indication of the feel of it anyway.
keep it up bedsdirect you get my vote every time.:T
So what is your connection with bedsdirect?
If there were poor reviews then there were probably very good reasons for them. If a company gives poor sevice on a regular basis so that customers actually take the time to complain about them on review sites, then they obviously need to buck their ideas up, instead of getting someone to write reviews in order to try and repair the damage.0
