i purchased a used mini with still 3 months to go on the warranty, as i didnt realise this i purchased an extended warranty for 2 years from the showroom at evans halshaw

at the point of puchase i told the sales guy that i was rejecting the warranty and he said that it would take a day or so to re-process the paperwork, i had tried to call in advance to get him to change the paperwork, and he was unavailable, i had travelled over an hour to get the car - he said not to worry as i could cancel the warranty at a later date which reassured me

i have read up on the warranty and the reviews, and now realise its virtualy useless and would like a refund

the garage are refusing, but im unsure as to my rights, i purchased the car on 20th December and my mini warranty runs out end march

The problem may be that you bought an "item", the same as a set of mats etc, rather than an insurance backed warranty so you paid £X extra and they will fix your car for free so is not covered by the usual rights to withdraw. A bit of a grey area.

Hang on, you have 3 months of manufacture warranty remaining and therefore you are cancelling 24months of extended warranty from the vendor? Is that correct?

yes thats right, ive read up about the warranty and its pretty useless - isnt this covered by a cooling off period as with anything of this nature?

    thanks

So your real question is:are extended warranties worth it and can I cancel? Nothing to do with the warranty already in place.

Not everything has a cooling off period. If they have carefully worded the warranty, it might be classified as some kind of service agreement, rather than an insurance policy.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
