    It is a good idea to "spreadsheet" your tax affairs to get used to your "liabilities" whilst still working & feeling 100% with it.  You would think retiring would make things easier.  Believe me it does not.  I never had to contact HMRC until I started late taking my state pension.  Over 8 years now & I still have to contact them yearly about something.  I must admit though that it is mostly about the DWP giving them the wrong state pension figures.  Goodness only knows what will happen when I start going gaga.

    I honestly thought that was the case when nothing was happening! I ended up requesting the ISA withdrawal twice as the balance hadn't updated. Second time lucky! The mortgage OP's are still running behind, but I've drawn myself up a whizzy chart to show what I've paid and when and then tick off the payments as they come off so nothing gets missed! I'm watching you, bank 👁👁!!!
