Don't worry Caz, going back to full-time work and commuting will shut me up a bit. Thanks to everyone for sticking with me while I've had plenty of time on my hands for rambling over the last few months 🤣!

Aargh, so much for my plans! New job is paid on the last working day of the month. Mortgage and electric bill are paid on the 29th and 28th. So I've just transferred another month of each from one of the 10% pots and need to replenish that before I can press back on with the weekly OP's 🙄 (I did try to change them, but the electricity account will only change the date if I also increase the amount and I don't think I'm as far off the right amount as they do; and the mortgage is within 7 days of payment so can't be changed at the moment, plus needs a payment in every calendar month, so I couldn't pay on 29/10 and then 01/12. It ended up being much more straightforward to just pinch the money off myself 🤣!) I have a pro-rata payment of Jobseeker's Allowance due, which should hopefully take care of a chunk of the deficit, although no idea when or how much that will be - payments were meant to be fortnightly on a Monday, and not had one on a Monday yet!
So I may have been a bit hasty with my £8.06 🤣!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

Ooh, just thought maybe I might get paid a bit at the end of this month 🤔? As I'm starting so late in the month, I just assumed I'd miss the payroll cut-off, but it's a much smaller company than I'm used to so maybe they don't have such things? I will examine my bank account on Friday!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

You my also want to check they have your right tax code and not the emergency one...
I've been caught out by that a few times on first payday. 😒If it's not adding up, compound it!5 -
😮 I hope not! It's not as though I'm still waiting on a P45, so no reason why they shouldn't get it right!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)

But you will need a P45 from JSA too - please check carefully that it is correct before passing it to your new employer. They are not well known for getting it correct. If you have had previous earnings to going on JSA they will probably miss those off. Better to have a couple of months on emergency (1250LX) & then get a rebate than to underpay & then get it all deducted in one month or even worse they don't figure it out & you get the bill after the end of the year when you have already spent it. You would not be the first. If you are unsure that the paperwork is correct then do not hand over the P45 (certainly do not for your last employment anyway as if you have claimed JSA then it will definitely not be correct). Just tick the box that says you have had a previous employment in the current tax year. This will mean that your code should be 1250LX which means month 1. As soon as HMRC get that they will send the correct details to your new employer & then everything will be corrected. So if your first pay with the new co is Nov then at the very latest your tax affairs should be sorted by Jan pay day.Can you tell I used to be a bookkeeper (well I still am unpaid for a friend) & also used to do wages although I don't now as he no longer has employees. Like me he is in his 70s & the online requirements became a problem for him so his employees lost their jobs! They are all OK by the way as he contacted his various friends & made sure they would go straight to other jobs.Wow - just realise that it is 44 years since I first started doing wages for a charity in Gloucestershire. Time to shut up now!!6

Last time I changed jobs you had to wait until the first full month to get paid. It meant that I got paid 6 weeks in one month. HMRC then assumed that was my usual monthly salary (I wish!) and so taxed me accordingly. I had to ring them up as I thought it might be a while before they realised. The man on the other end (who sounded like Eeyore) actually laughed when I told him my actual salary....
Anyway, it was sorted out very quick.2025 decluttering: 4,011 🌟🥉🌟💐🏅🏅🌟🥈🏅🌟🏅💐💎🌟🏅🏆🌟🏅🌟

Good luck with the new job SC, I'm sure you'll be great. I also had issues with my JSA P45 a few years ago but was quickly sorted. When I started my new job, I thought they'd missed the payroll cut off as I wasn't paid on my first payday but turns out they have a second payment run on the last working day to hopefully catch "all the people who's managers can't fill paperwork out on time" (direct quote from my payroll advisor!) So you might be lucky - and I would assume that they'd processed the paperwork in advance of your original start date so you should get a little something.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20174

Thanks for the tips all, except I've only just seen them and the P45 is already handed in 🤣! I paid a huge amount of tax on my last payment from my old job (3 months' pay in lieu of notice/pension/car allowance, unused holiday etc - the amount shown on the P45 for what I'd earned in this tax year up to the end of July was more than my new salary 😮), plus 3 months of only Jobseeker's Allowance means any errors should be in my favour I think and I'll do some figures at the end of the tax year.
Going OK so far, just the long days are taking a bit of getting used to. I'm out of the house from 7.00am-6.00pm (if I come straight home) and I'm not used to that any more! I'm very glad the roads are still fairly quiet at the moment though, could be a lot worse!Mortgage start: £65,495 (March 2016)
