If you really want the skulking lurkers gone, put them in the fridge and buy some nice mixers and let the kids know they are up for grabs.  Can't believe the range of tonic waters this year! There is everything from cinnamon to rose to strawberry and pomegranate.   Technically it counts as tidying.  Sometimes it is the only responsible thing to do........

  • If the Welsh whisky is Penderyn then it's rather nice, although I still prefer a nice Talisker, Tobermory or my ultimate favourite Oban (which is expensive but gorgeous!). We need to fill hip flasks this week ready for (hopefully - assuming covid/Boris/Nicola don't stop us) heading to the Hebrides.

Enjoy your fabulous long break too - I've got something similar but mot starting until the end of the week.

    Good advice all round -

Yes EH it is Penderyn and I am reassured by your comments.
Yes SH I have made comments about needing more socks and cardigans and less whisky.
Yes, yes, yes FH that is genius - although of the 3 young adults remaining one likes cider, the others aren't big on the booze for medical reasons so it may tempt myself and my OH.  That said we do have an xmas party and the return of the prodigal daughter for a week to enjoy - so will see if we can't take a good glug out of the spirit lake

In other news, I just cleared the balance from CC3's last statement, although there is some XMAS December spending over the last few days, so although this new balance is covered by various pots I'm not claiming debt free just yet.  Happy to claim long term (non mortgage) debt free today and will wait until I tally up on 31 Dec and everything is at £0 before I truly celebrate

  • Raises a tentative glass (of something from your spirit lake, naturally, hope you don't mind?!) in celebration! Well done! (For what it's worth if the spending is only on a card because it is "day to day" and is literally awaiting funds being transferred to clear, I think you can quite reasonably proclaim yourself DF!)

    cheers EH!!

well EH - normally yes, but as Christmas spending included quite a lot of not day to day stuff, I would rather wait until after the last flurry has gone through CC3.

It is true to say I have no debt older than this cycle of statements, and that I have no further plans to spend anything other than day to day this year, however I just don't want to cry wolf so will wait and see everything filters through and I have done my budgets for January - a notoriously long month.  I know its a bit poor to have been a little out of control budgetwise, but better safe than sorry

I’ve got loads of unopened bottles of whisky too Mark. Partial to a drop myself but not to the extent of what I have in the house. I wonder how many houses round the country are similar. Some excellent choices @EssexHebridean Talisker is my personal favourite. And as for the Hebrides, what a fantastic place to visit. I have roots up that way. Some wonderful people, If a little quirky compared to my big City living ways. I finally lost my run of 10,000 plus steps a day that you inspired me to do Mark. I think I got to 97 days. Feel full of energy tonight to do today’s last couple of thousand but It’s frosty out and I need to remember the main thing is I’ve positively changed my exercise habits. A bit like you positively changing your debt paying habits. We can all have the slight off day/rest day

  • AntoMac well done on that amazing run of steps - and yep, absolutely rest days are part of the whole positive process!  We decided on Oban, Laphroig and Talisker for the hip flasks in the end - my favourite, his favourite, and one we both like! We've also discovered several bottles with only a couple of drams left in them so may declutter a couple of those over the  next few nights - just to help with keeping things tidy, of course!
