Soundbar thats actually good.

Ive been dissapointed with 2 soundbars now.

First one was sony but it was only 150 quid and the other one was a samsung harmon kardon q60r.

Both of them had a sub and a soundbar.

Both of them had the same problem, speech is muted and you could hardly hear what people were saying during movies, and you also felt like there was a lot of mid range noise you were missing out on, they sounded cold and tinny. Also during music it was all treble and bass, no mid range.

Ive been massively dissapointed with them so far and im trying to find a good soundbar that can deliver good bass as well as a good mid range and even treble, yes i did try equalizers on my soundbars but they didnt really help.

my room its in is quite big but we sit directly in front of the tv so position wise it sits in a good position.

  • Easiest way to describe the pitfalls of the 2 previous soundbars is muffled sound.
  • I tried a Bose soundbar, but it sounded "boxy" - as though the sound was confined to the TV and nowhere else. I prefer Yamaha soundbars, as I've found they throw the sound out more.
  • Anyone any idea if the sonos beam packs okay levels of bass or does it sound tinny?

I bought a small hifi system instead of a soundbar, much better sound. Go to Richer Sounds & listen to a few.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
  • Can a hifi connect to a tv properly though for movies etc?

Usually but it depends on the ouputs from the TV and the inputs on the hifi. I use powered/amplified "pc" speakers from the headphone jack in my kitchen. But you can get adaptors for output to input in most cases for a hifi.

I have a Sonos Beam and the Bass levels are fine. There is a 'Night Mode' to reduce Bass and increase quieter sounds to save your neighbors....You can alter Bass and Treble via the app.
It also has a speech enhancement mode which really works.
It can be paired with two sonos/ikea speakers to give a decent surround sound.
I find it ideal in the lounge, however, I'm looking for a replacement system for the TV room, but that search has only just started. I feel a few trips to Richer sounds demo rooms coming on.:)

Also take a look at the Canton DM60 Soundbase which gets excellent reviews.

Available from Richer Sounds if you have one close to you for a demo.

I have a Denon hifi with optical input, yes you have to switch it on.
