  • Humidity I have no idea.. sorry

Our sons 2 rooms the windows get lots of condensation on.

Gutters were replaced in the last few months...cant say if it has got worse since them or if that helped.

Nickcc, sounds like our house, well all down one side anyway...

We've used the additive that you can buy which you mix with your emulsion paint and this helps but if the air can't circulate the damp starts again. Had a friend that had a humidifier system with extraction vents in most of his rooms, even then he still had the dreaded black mould.

Do you know whats it called?

We used one called VC 175, cost £17 + from Amazon but it works. Only a very small bottle but you only put a few drops in with your paint. There are plenty of others listed but this particular one was recommended by a decorator.

Paints will only cover up the problem for so long.

You need to get to the bottom of why you have so much moisture in the house to fix the problem properly.

Do you have/ are you providing enough natural ventilation to the rooms?

    Are the air bricks blocked?

If you have trickle vents to your windows are they open?

Do you have any water leaks in the house?

    Are the rooms heated sufficiently?

I have brought meters to test the humidity, the rooms range from 44 to 58%, what should they be?

My son has his windows open each day, I try and do ours when i remember.

Cant see an water leaks anywhere.

Have radiators on each day, although the bedrooms feel naturally cooler.

The humidity in my house varies between 45% to 55% with the occasional peaks of around 65%. Your readings are (in my opinion) typical for most homes in the UK.
