I was in hospital for a month a few years ago.  A very nasty infection.  When I got home one of first things I did was check my bank account (there was no internet for patients at the hospital then) and found I had saved a staggering amount of money, quite a lot of it from not having to buy food.
You can't be seriously justifying food saving costs as a reason for hospedia to fleece reletive.  Hospedia have no link to NHS food costs.  You surely must have shares in hospedia to come out with that.

MY 90yr old reletive with demantia fell and dislocated, and totally shattered the bones in her shoulder last week. I'm her primary carer and next of kin.  Hospital has no access for visitors in this crisis. After I ring and talk to her nurse Dr or surgeo,  I have to ring her everyday through hospedia, by the time they go through there spiel and the phone rings till its answered, if its unanswered its cost me £3.50. Can take 2/3 calls. When I eventually get through its at least ten minutes before I can settle her down to talk to her. All to make sure she's in regular contact as she can't cope with none, and to make sure she understands what the Dr's and nurses have told her.

£120 in a week is an absolute !!!!!! take.

Would a nurse be able to dial out to you for her as she could make calls for free.

No visitors allowed. Hospital will not accept anything incoming for patient's.
Tryed everything. Asked nurses to met on way into there shift. Reception say normally yes but now policy of only items they come in with is allowed. Plus no everyone's too busy.

Think it's easier to get a phone into prison at the minute.

We've tryed that. The free outgoing calls last 1min then cut off.

Designed no doubt as just long enough to give you the bedside phone number. Or not enough time to tell you anything in detail just enough to get you worried enough to call the bedside phone.

    Talk about call scams.

What network are you phoning from? This makes a MASSIVE difference to the call change, as I was ranting about above. Most of the cost is not the service charge, which looks to be 13p/min, but the access charge, which can be up to 65p/min if you use a mobile.
If you use a landline the access charge tends to be MUCH cheaper, usually around 15p/min. So if you have no choice but to call these numbers, use a landline if you can. Look up the provider's "access charge" to be certain.
Also see above as some providers have waived their access charge to these numbers - check what you're being charged if you're with one of them, as they might have not implemented it properly eg screwed up the number range. How much are you actually being charged per min?

It might be worth posting on giffgaff's forum, or their social media, they claim to be doing things to help in the current crisis, companies are falling over themselves at the moment to show they're being responsible and helpful. They might even offer you a refund of the access charge especially if they can tell the world (or their forum/social media) about it.
You could try ee payg for a quick call to see how much is charged.
What about your landline, who's that with or do you use mobile broadband?

Ye got onto giffgaff other day. They said nought they can do about there charges as there carrier charges them and premium rate numbers service charge. They did credit me £10 to help.  But since I found out here that 02 dropped there fee  I've Just messaged them over this I'll see what they say.

I've a landline with Vodafone but no phone lol may order a cheap one I'll see.
