Your comment about needing to slam on the brakes is just wrong. You can see far enough on a motorway that if you come across a lorry in te same lane doing 40 it’ll be enough to lift off the accelerator.

Don't forget there are still a lot of people who only look 10ft beyond their bonnet. These are the ones who fail to anticipate the possible actions of people on slip roads.

Don't these guys have any fear of speed camera or police speed guns waiting for them? I'm driving at bang on 70 in the left hand lane then along comes 5 or 6 cars in the right hand lane blowing past me at 75 - 80mph.

75-80 on a Motorway doesn't concern me greatly. There's plenty of people doing 40-50mph in 20 and 30 zones including my partner's daughter who hit 56 in a 30 zone. I'm certain she's doing those kind of speeds regularly and by the state of her alloy wheels and the number of tyres she's replaced due to damage to the sidewalls, she's paying very little attention when driving. As far as I'm aware though, she's only had one speeding ticket but she appears to be spending thousands per year for parking fines, driving in bus lanes etc. She clearly faces a very small chance of getting speeding at all or will probably manage to injure herself or someone else before that happens.

Jumping red lights is also all too common. I have reason to join a dual-carriageway on my drive to and from work. Whilst waiting at lights, I'll usually see a dozen people a
per week cross a red light, sometimes a very significant time after the lights have changed.

Ah ha your one of those idiots that sits in the outer lane claiming to be going 70 mph FORCING those behind you to undertake to get past. Wheras in reality YOUR inexperienced shellfish and dangerous driving is the issue. What does the Highway Code that you obviously haven't read or choose to ignore say on the subject....
"You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past."

Fingers crossed you get banned before you cause an accident.
^Doesn't know how to read and doesn't know how to drive.
  • It would be kinda dangerous to be doing 70 in the left hand lane in lots if not all situations.

    To paraphrase your earlier post.

"Ah ha, you're one of those idiots that sit in, and hogs the middle lane"

To answer the actual question, on the motorway you can be doing 80mph and chances are you are not going to get caught. Depending where you are anyway.
Agreed. Having spoken to a police officer who confirmed they wouldn't bother pulling you doing 80 on the motorway, providing that you weren't driving like an idiot. If you were inches off the bumper of the car in front doing 80 is a bit different to if you were doing 80 with only you on the road, oh and the cop a safe distance away from you. Though technically yeah you could get busted for doing 75 even.

There really shouldn't be any need to slow down.

Chances are if you see the police/safety partnership van, you are too late.

If you are driving at the speed limit and slow down when you see the van, why?

Because i'm not driving at the speed limit, obviously!

See, i'm not like the rest of you willy waving point scorers on here. I don't pretend that i live a squeaky clean lifestyle but then at the same time i don't come here & basically just lie either. Like i said, i'm not like most of you. If i do it i'll say i do it, i don't act like i never do and that doesn't just apply to driving speed.

So many of you act like you do no wrong and it's just complete tosh. Not a chance so many of these people live so squeaky clean.

So you want to pretend that in a 20 you do no more than 20, in a 30 you wont ever go 31, 40, 50, 60, 70 you don't ever creep 1mph over?
Yeah sure keep pretending so that you can point score over someone on here. That isn't a comment directed just at you btw but anyone who tries that angle because you're not alone. I'm saying right now that that is total nonsense and not a chance you are the little angel you pretend to be, again, not just you. The way people on here try to portray that image is ridiculous. Nobody is that clean!

So yeah i've done 50 in a 40. Long straight no cars around, 6am why not? Am i driving unsafe? No.

I've done 80, 90 on the motorway. Again was i unsafe? No.
60 in a 50, again was i driving unsafe? No.

But at the same time i'm saying i've done it because i've done it. I don't come here, pretend & lie like others. Yeah i may be the 'bad guy' here but at least i'm honest.

Now ... do i drive like some youth who will sit millimetres off someones bumper even though they have no chance of overtaking? No. Like i said, i don't drive unsafe. I sit back and wait. When there's a safe gap to overtake, i'll put my foot down.

Do i nick in with milliseconds to spare? Again, no that's unsafe. That's not what i do. I will however put my foot down and get past you if there's a safe opportunity to do it.

I've been in those millisecond situations and to be quite honest it scares the crap out of me. It's not worth the risk. Yes i will drive above the speed limit, no i don't drive unsafe.

Oh and for the record, i've seen the van and hit the brakes numerous times in my years of driving. I've been busted once. So no, more often than not i haven't been too late. Yeah they got me and i held my hands up and took it on the chin because i got busted. I wasn't driving unsafe but yeah i was speeding and i took the hit. That's life.

Do try and lose that chip on your shoulder. It makes walking around far more difficult than it should be ;)

I once did 93mph on the M4 and the policeman gave me a certificate to prove it;).
