Car hire excess product for new Canadian Resident

Hi all
I'm moving to Canada from the UK in January as a permanent resident. I will be hiring a car and I want to take out insurance to cover the excess. Most products in the state that you must be UK resident throughout the duration of the insurance but I will become a Canadian resident when I arrive in Canada.
Other than taking out the rental company's counter insurance (which will eat big time into my funds) does anyone know of any companies who would cover the excess in such a situation?
I've booked a car through rentalcars and I have read their insurance documentation cover to cover. It does NOT state that you need to be a UK resident, in fact many european countries are listed, but it does not state that you MUST be a resident of one of those countries. I've taken out the insurance for now but I'm not totally confident that they would pay out in my circumstances.
I would appreciate any advice on this. The excess won't be massive but will be CAD 600 and will be on my mind if I can't find a product to cover it.
Thanks
