I said they're pretty basic with their computer knowledge. They don't really know what they're doing.

So why take the risk of them having admin privileges? (Which would let them install whatever they like).

See it's easy to sit on the outside and for these people to say if they can do X then that means they can do Y.

They can install programs and use programs. They wouldn't be able to figure out how to go digging and assigning drive letters. They wouldn't have the confidence to remove drives physically as they'd fear they'd break something.

It's like me for example. I can do an oil change on a car, oil, air, pollen, fuel filters. I've done coolant changes, replaced header tanks and an ECU as well as removing throttle bodies to clean out.

Some would say well if he can do that himself then he must be able to do XYZ as well.
I can't. I consider that quite basic stuff. I wouldn't dream of tackling belts. I can't diagnose problems really, or at least not many and those i sort of can i'm not very confident in myself.

Which is exactly the point I was making. As long as they only try and install what you provide them, and they don't try and "freestyle" from the Internet, then that's OK. If they take the latter approach then that's a potential recipe for virus/malware.
