. I searched the internet for a EPC provider. Found Lowcostepc agreed a to pay a referral fee of £14.95 . I did not take up any of the referrals . But soon after received emails about a bad review i left them . I had not at that time left any review good or bad but they insisted i had were sending court papers to me to recover cost of taking such action. On checking their reviews half were excellent half were bad . Saw the of review i was supposed to have left it was from someone who had only left one review on Trustpilot i have left several all positive . After my experience with them i did go on to leave them a negative which was immediately reported by them and removed pending investigation. Lowcostepc and its owner Christopher Whatcott have history in the EPC service .

This my first post . I searched internet for a EPC provider. Came across Lowcostepc . Browsed the website and within hours was sent a invoice for £14.95 .l did not know I had bought anything but browsing the web site I had agreed to their T/Cs . I paid the £14.95 . Soon after he Christopher Whatcott sent a further emails say l left a damaging review on Trustpilot and he was taking court action. I did not leave any reviews. But because of my experience with I did go onto leave a review which complained about and got took down . His Trustpilot are very negative. Has anyone else had dealings with Lowcostepc.

    This makes no sense
You browsed a website and somehow the Christopher Watcott knew your name and address
You were sent and paid an invoice that was for 1/3 the cost of the going rate of an EPC ?
their website says an EPC is from £48
There is nothing in their T and C that says what you claim
They state the quote is no obligation on their website
I can only assume that either school is out or you are a competitor of this company

I have to agree with OP, I have just used their website and no where is it obvious that any service would start without agreement? Although this does pop up asking for you to agree,
Your order will now be referred to a fully accredited domestic energy assessor.

    - In the unlikely event your order cannot be fulfilled by an assessor, we will refer your order to an alternative assessor without further charge to you or alternatively, refund your referral fee in full. All refund requests should be made to us by email using the support ticket link which can be found in your order confirmation email. Please be advised that your referral fee becomes due within 24 hours of the referral to an assessor.

    - A set of the agreed terms and conditions will be sent to you via email after you have confirmed your order and the acceptance of these terms.

    Cancellation

You have a statutory right to cancel your order within 14 days however, where you have expressly requested (by virtue of the tick box below) that the service starts within the cancellation period of 14 days, you will be required to pay for the service received up to the time of cancellation. For the avoidance of doubt, the referral of your order to an assessor is regarded as service received. The referral fee will therefore still need to be paid when 1) You have requested that the service start within the cancellation period and 2) Where your order has been referred to an assessor prior to receiving your cancellation request. A cancellation form can be found at the bottom of the terms and conditions that will be sent to you after you have confirmed your order.

Please tick this box to confirm that you have read and accept the terms and conditions (view terms).

Please tick this box to expressly request that the service starts straight away (within the cancellation period) so that we can refer your order to a fully accredited energy assessor without delay.
Although before this screen it does request that the user enters their name and address. If vOP agreed to their loose terms, then how they can claim their referral fee?
To me this looks like another sca referral service.

I did pay a local EPC assessor £55.00 to carry out the work . I am not connected with the epc industry in any way . But annoyed that businesses like Lowcostepc trade the way they do.

In your opening post you said you were sent an invoice for £14.95 for 'browsed the website'.

And: 'l did not know I had bought anything but browsing the web site I had agreed to their T/Cs .'

Later we discover you used the website to place an order.

You would have seen a page similar to this after entering your details and before placing your order:

You've attempted to mislead people here.

As far as you and Christopher Whatcott are concerned: pot meets kettle.

Issue is not with the £14.95 it's that he said i left a negative review on Trustpilot which i did not . The referral fee i paid and that for me was the end of it . But he says he has issued court papers about a review i did not post that's the issue .

    More than likely it's bluster.

Your defence: I did not post the review in question.

I doubt any court papers will be dropping through your letter box from Christopher this year or next.

The rogue review from James Smith was posted 19th December the same day it was reported to TrustPilot. Even if it was a tissue of defamatory lies I doubt it would have affected LowCostEPC's reputation or sales.

Plenty of other bad TrustPilot reviews, although Christopher does appear to have put a lot of effort in to getting good ones recently.

Coincidentally the good ones were posted during an eleven day period in July 2019; except one.

The good reviewers do appear to be genuine in that they've been using TrustPilot for several years and have posted other views. Seems odd. I guess it's good to have friends and family you can rely on.

Please read my better explanation . I paid referral fee £14.95 the issue is accusation of leaving a bad Trustpilot review that he is going take court action and recover the costs of doing so i did not leave the review he refers to Its not the behavior of a normal company . A google search reveals years of sharp practice and disqualifications from running companies all involved in the energy assessor sector .
