Damn accidentally drove in a bus lane

I drive the same route home everyday and today I got off work early

I usually drive along a particular section of road after 7pm (outside of the bus route time zones ) but today having left early meant that I was inside the bus lane at the wrong time.

I accept it was my fault and happy to pay the pun when I get it.

My question to the forum is this.

What happens if I receive the pcn and I’m abroad?

I’m going for an extended break for two months first week of Jan and won’t know until March if I have received a PCN.

Meaning I will have to pay the maximum fine etc.

Can I appeal against paying the maximum and pay the reduced fine?

Since we specialise in private parking charges here on MSE, you would be better taking this over to our friends on pepipoo.com.

You will need to sign up on pepipoo with a non-Hotmail email address before reading the FAQs then posting your query.

It's a fixed penalty so I guess you could send a cheque in advance, they may not penalise you yet, but going on what you write, why cause more problems for yourself?

I will need a pcn notice number to relate any money I would be sending...

Well as said, you can send a cheque in or send a notice to email you and you can then do a bank transfer. As said you may not get a penalty. You have more to lose by not being proactive in this instance.

This is where modern life sucks.

You made a mistake, but nobody will look at the footage and say "Oh look, not causing any problems there, must've been mistaken. Not there deliberately to beat any queues; not holding up any buses" ....

    System just says "no"....

Damn accidentally posted on the wrong forum!

As we major on private parking tickets here, PePiPoo will be your best bet for council tickets. Register there (but please note that a hotmail address won't work - try using a throwaway gmail account instead if you do have trouble registering) and post a new thread; here's your link:

    http://forums.pepipoo.com/index.php?act=SF&s=&f=30

Have a read through some of the other threads there before you post your own to get the hang of what information they need from you in your opening post - but as a minimum you will need to post redacted photos/scans of all correspondence you've received from the council (both sides, if appropriate) as they need to see all the small print.

PePiPoo has an excellent success record in dealing with council tickets.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

To be fair, I accidentally drove in a bus lane and received a letter saying no penalty this time. That said I didn't realise it was a bus lane as the road had changed status months before.
