Can anyone recommend a laptop?

Hah, that was a model number from personal experience. Not a bad laptop, but feels a bit bendy for my liking. I guess I have been spoilt by laptops 10 years ago.Are you spying on me?
Mine has X555L on the front and X555LD on the back

I think because 4GB would be adequate for most basic tasks. However I do agree that increasing the amount of memory is never a bad thing - especially if using Chrome. :eek:I was looking to see if anyone suggested increasing the memory, but no one did so. i would suggest the the OP increase the memory to 8GB or even 16GB, it will definitely make a difference to the speed! eBay has some really great deals on memory.0 -

SSD first, RAM, if needed, second.0 -

Hi Pennypincher. I've done this with my 7yo ASUS. Updated it to max ram, switched the 750gb HDD to a 500 GB SSD. I know that even cleaning with CCleaner, Windows OS gets cluttered np and slows, so did a complete new install of windows, and it has made a major difference to starting up. I also stop what I don't use regularly starting up. Via CCleaner (free of course). I then put the HDD into a caddy so could be use as a usb backup drive, and copied what I needed over to the new drive. For everyday I have one of the tiny usb sticks, which gives me an extra 128gb of storage so don't miss the 750gb. Also did a new install of MS Office 10.

I have an old Samsung laptop with Windows Vista. It's been sitting in storage for what feels like forever. Could an SSD and an install of Windows 10 make this laptop usable? I know the kids could do with another laptop for homework instead of sharing.0 -

2 options I believe. 1. take back cover off (yeuch) and replace hdd with ssd 2. if it has a dvd drive, replace with caddy-containing-ssd
video of back removal (yeuch again) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L5ZTSo-DtE0 -
