Can anyone recommend a laptop?

Main uses: surfing the web, some youtube watching (don't do a lot of this on a laptop), using word.
Would like a laptop that doesn't take 15 minutes to load and when clicking on something doesn't take more than 30 seconds to open
Lower the price the better but will consider paying more if it is a good 'un.
Thank you very much.

So a fairly basic machine?
You probably need to add a few more functional requirements to get sensible responses, the most important is budget! You can get a workable machine under £100 (second hand), new over about £250 (but probably a poor machine by current standards) quite reasonable machines over £350......and you can pay more to get "better"!
What about screen size, weight, storage needs, any preferred operating system.....etc.
That will give respondents half a chance to advise properly.0 -
Of course if you tell us which one you have now, a simple SSD upgrade may save you loads of money.Would like a laptop that doesn't take 15 minutes to load and when clicking on something doesn't take more than 30 seconds to open4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . This. See if you can fit an SSD to your current device.0 -
Here's the current laptop (it's sooooo slooooow):
Intel Pentium N3710 quad core processor.
1.6GHz processor speed.
4GB RAM DDR3.
1TB HDD storage.
Hard drive speed 5400RPM.
Microsoft Windows 10.
No preference on OS, brand, weight, screen size. Just want a decent laptop. Willing to pay over £350 and more if that's what it takes.0 -

.....and there's your problem, look at putting Linux on it before spending out on a replacement.0 -

4GB RAM DDR3 - increase this, memory is cheap.
1TB HDD storage - swap for SSD, they have fallen a lot in price.Signature on holiday for two weeks0 -

That's the specification. What about the brand and model details? In order to ascertain how easy or difficult to swap the slow HDD to a much faster SSD.
A clean install of Windows 10 to a new SSD will transform the laptop into something usable.

But let's identify the thing first.0 -

No,
The 5400rpm spinning rust platter and the N series processor are the problem.
And of course the many pups and malware that are likely riddling this machine.
Away with you and your daft suggestions.
Why do people in these threads default to suggesting a novice user (no offence OP) who just wants to surf the web and do 'day to day' computer stuff, install a new OS on their computer that they will have no idea how to use ?
OP that processor is dire
And the hard drive very slow.
I would suggest you can turn it into something very usable by following the above suggestions to fit an SSD.
That coupled with a clean install of windows 10 will transform this machine, and although its not going to win any prizes for speed - it will be like night and day from what it is now.
It might sound a bit daunting if you are not familiar with this sort of stuff - but its MUCH easier than you will imagine and we can talk you through it0 -

No offence taken. In instances like these, please assume I am a complete idiot lol!
I've taken a look at some youtube videos showing an installation of an internal SSD. I've never done something like this before but if I'm going to throw this laptop through the window, what's the worst I can do?
Do I need to reinstall Windows? Or is there a software you can recommend that will keep OS as it is? I saw some youtube videos where some people did this but some didn't.
And thank you for helping me through.0 -
Unless you watched a video of the exact same model, don't rely too much on it, every laptop is different.pennypincher2013 wrote: »I've taken a look at some youtube videos showing an installation of an internal SSD. You can clone your existing drive, though you may need additional cables, but it's highly recommended to install Windows again. It's probably easier too.pennypincher2013 wrote: »Do I need to reinstall Windows? Or is there a software you can recommend that will keep OS as it is?
