Thank you all for your kind words - they are very comforting.

I feel different to last week - the waiting for the end and the uncertainty were very hard.  I went to bed for 5 nights expecting "the" call and slept poorly night after night.  I feel sad but calm now.  I ate some dinner and I'm now having a glass of wine and some chocolate sea shells.  Went for a walk this afternoon and sat looking at a beautiful peaceful view - very restorative.

There's not much I can do at the moment to organise things as I can't have a call with the Registrar until next Tuesday.  my poor dad doesn't know what to do with himself.  They were married for 70 years.  He's been polishing his black shoes ready for the funeral 💔

No money spent today.  Wine and chocolate from stash at home.

So sorry about your mum. It's a horrible feeling, I lost my grandad last year, we were very very close. I miss him every day. It doesn't get easier, but you've got the support and love from your MSE family

On another note, wine and chocolates sounds amazing right now! I'm waiting for my steak and chips from OH and I might even go make myself a raspberry vodka!

It's so hard for the one left behind, @Blackcats, after such a long marriage. My Mum was the same when we lost Dad. They'd been married 57 years, together 61 years & had known each other since they were 11.
I do agree that waiting for 'the end' when you know there can be no other outcome is beyond stressful & sad. With my Mum, we were told 'between 2 days & a month'. I do understand that feeling of lying awake every night thinking 'Will it be tomorrow?'
Chocolate seashells & wine sound well deserved.
    Take care,

Oh bless your dad 💔 70 years married wow. I lost my lovely mum 21 years ago to a very fast growing brain tumour, it was all over in less than 6 weeks from diagnosis. There is almost a sense of relief when it’s over, no more bad news, no more waiting for that call, no more suffering. Do whatever it takes to get you through these next few weeks and don’t forget to take care of you xx

Thank you Jadewest - it's lovely that you were so close to your grandad - it's a very special bond.  I don't drink vodka but if I did it would definitely be raspberry vodka!
Foxgloves I remember reading your diary when your mum was poorly.  It was so hard for you as you lived a distance away too.  I'm only 10 minutes from my parents and I think my car could drive itself there.
Sunaddict - how sad to lose your mum so quickly. I agree about the sense of relief but I'm struggling not to feel guilty about feeling that.
thank you Rebecca and SavingHolmes.  My parents got a card for the 70th anniversary from the Queen.  I think my mum was determined to get that.

The day has flown by - I'm not sure that I've achieved very much but I've had some bursts of activity.
spent some money on a book about not spending money 🤷‍♀️.  I bet the author is pleased that there are people like me to sell her book too - at least I can see the irony of it!

How lovely to get a card from the queen. Love the irony too of spending money on a money book - I've done that a few times too. I've always gained more than I spent - Martin's book being a prime example.

Hello SH.  Which Martin book did you buy?  I'm trying to read up on a simpler lifestyle and also want to learn more about the psychology of money - spending, saving etc.  I'm curious about investing too.  I had a lump sum of money a couple of years ago and put half in a cash ISA and half in a stocks and shares ISA.  The cash ISA is obviously safe but is massively underperforming stocks and shares.

Had a look at this month's spending to date and although I thought I would be massively over, it is salvageable.  I'm not going to be too hard on myself in the circumstances, but I will do what I can to manage spending.

filled up with petrol today - the cost has gone up such a lot over the last few months - cost £50 today whereas it was just over £40 in March/April time.   I also bought some wool this month to make blankets for a couple of babies who are due to join the family in a few months.  I know the gender of one baby but not the other so I've got a nice range of colours.  Although I've had a hob*bycra*t account, it didn't recognise me so I signed up again and got a 15% discount which was a nice surprise.

A week today that my mum died - it still seems a bit unreal.  I couldn't get an appointment to register her death until middle of next week which means lots of admin is still on hold.  I've found some lovely photos of her including her christening which has got the names written on the back so that helps me with my detective work with other photos.  I finally know what her legendary Aunt Bertha looks like 🧐.  Apparently Aunt Bertha made the very best Yorkshire puddings - a skill which hasn't passed down to me.  Also found a postcard from my grandad to my Nan from 1914 when he was in France in WW1.  He must have been incredibly fortunate to survive the war as he was obviously signed up and posted to the battlefields at the very start of the war.
