From an outsider perspective it sounds like brother 2 should be supporting the relative that they live with rent and bill free 🤔

You are absolutely right @Sun_Addict, however neither sibling works enough to earn enough to live like adults in the real world.  It's not like they are kipping on a sofa or spare room, they each live like squatters in self contained apartments with glorious sea views and contribute not a single €.

it's a nice sunny day here so we have come down to the garden room and have done some sorting out.  A picture has been hung, CD's sorted and books arranged which is making it feel like a really nice place to relax in.
  • I would love a garden room.  Can't decide on making the dining room into one, or whether to use it as a utility room, or maybe half and half, if it would work. Probably neither and we will just end up moving in a few years.

Thank you,  it's nice to have a completely separate zone to relax in.

today's MSE win was a triple whammy ; not spending money, shopping from home and avoiding food waste.  Who new a cottage pie could be so influential?  Our local butcher sells really nice cottage pies and we decided to buy one for tea tonight as a quick and easy option when we got back home from visiting my dad, but they are so nice they were sold out.  So I decided just to make my own (like a true MSE'r would).  We had mince in the freezer and for the topping i used up the last of the potatoes, parsnips and carrots that were certainly a bit wrinkly.  I prepped it before we went out so it only took about 15 minutes in the air fryer.  A very nice winter's evening tea. £10 not spent.

  • Ooh - cottage pie in the air fryer indeed sounds like a good plan - and another occasion where I rather wish mine were a more practical square or rectangular shape rather than round...!

The relatives, well, I do believe if they were mine a phrase along the lines of "go forth and multiply" would have been used. The sheer cheek of it really is astonishing. of course if they ARE that concerned for the (other) relative's welfare, then they will reach their own conclusions about the need to contribute for themselves, and if they are not, then I suspect your worries about where any financial offerings might end up are well founded! I really hope MrBC manages to find a way through it that doesn't involve him feeling bad about it, and also doesn't involve either of you parting with any money.

The air fryer cooked the pie very well.  I used the bake setting and it was piping hot with a nice crispy topping.

thank you @EssexHebridean - it is indeed a blooming cheek.

well MrBC and Brother1 debated and decided they would each send an equal amount of money in the hope that it would help with Christmas food etc.
when they told Brother 2 - wait for it, this really does take the mickey - brother 2 told them they both needed to send double that amount 😡. Not asking could they send more but they telling them they must send more.
    now he isn't getting anything!

I think we might be able to organise a home delivery from parent's local supermarket so we will probably do that for parent not greedy g*t siblings.
