Love the idea of eating pomegranate and pineapple back then in a working class area. Even in the 70s I didn't have pomegranate although we occasionally had pineapple. My parents had planted lots of raspberries, gooseberries, blackcurrants and strawberries so we had more fruit than was probably the norm and sometimes harvested our own potatoes  too - plus cherries and apples.

Glad you were able to use notelets from your Mum. It would be a shame if they went to waste.

On boring wet Sunday afternoons back in the 1970s, my Dad would occasionally be despatched to the corner shop to buy us a pomegranate when they were in season. My sister & I would be given half each with a pin to pick out & eat the individual seeds. It took ages. I suspect wuth hindsight that this was the idea, as it kept us quiet & occupied for so long!

I've discovered I quite like the seeds on salads or a bowl of mixed fruit - but couldn't just eat them on their own. I tend to get them if they are YS

@PIP - I've joined the library book club - will let you know if there's anything untoward going on there 🥴

loving the pomegranate seed picking based fun.  When we visited my grandparents on a Sunday afternoon my grandad would buy jellied eels (gross), whelks (equally gross) and winkles which needed to be picked out of their shells with a pin (I never developed the hand eye co-ordination to do this thankfully)
Fortunately there were also prawns which I do like.
I am nervous about mentioning winkles on my diary and just checked that this is their official name and not just a vulgar colloquism.

haven't felt 100% today - bit achey and weary.  We did go for a walk and fed the adorable ducklings at the village pond.  Rectified the bad hot chocolate experience at a different coffee shop,  I hope I'll feel fine tomorrow.

  • Ooh do (quietly obviously 😁)

Sorry you're not feeling great. Lots of no-sun-all-summer things going round at the moment. Medicinal glass of red wine and a good sleep should hopefully sort you out

Feeling much brighter today - feels bad to complain when there are folks with chronic pain and health conditions and I just felt a bit bleurgh.

Not sure if I've already mentioned that I finished selling the first batch of dgd's baby clothes on vinted.  Anyway I was able to give dd £102 to help reduce her overdraft.  Next batch will be the autumn/winter clothes from last year so although it's chilly enough to wear autumn clothes now I'll wait to list them until mid September when they are more likely to sell.  Took a bag of bits and bobs to the charity shop so there's a nice gap in the cupboard now.

we were given a slice of home made Victoria sponge whilst watching our little local cricket club this afternoon.  Very nice it was too.

finally managed to set up online access to my new santand er account (I switched a donor account so fingers crossed should get the switching bonus eventually).  I've taken advantage of the 7% savings account too.

  • Whilst good to count one's blessings, there's no hierarchy of pain, or bleurgh, so complain away if you need to! Glad you don't need to though. I've been feeling bleurgh today, hope it goes with the age old trusted prescription of red wine and much sleep.

That's a brilliant amount to get from vinted, well done!

Not only do they poop eveywhere but you are likely to lose them to the local foxes who seem to be able to get into the most secure pen. My neighbour had three lots and the foxes got them all before she gave up. Very sad and she was heartbroken.
