Hi Blackcats - you lost me at 23 cupboards and 20 drawers....! Is that just the kitchen or the whole house? I pictured a mansion for a moment. If you have one of those kudos...
Real win on the Sanctuary - I love their orange fragrance type one but don't buy it... I'm allergic to stuff to easy but can sometimes tolerate it in small doses. I liked their shower gel - and a similar one from BShp.
Definitely be careful to use up your detergents etc. I ended up having to bin some off what I found in the understairs cupboard clear out as it had gone off. It stank so it was really clear.
Definitely set expectations up front. I wouldn't be paying for everyone... I like giving - I suppose paying for others meals isn't really what I enjoy. I prefer something longer lasting. I often pay for my kids meals but not always. I make it clear beforehand if I am expecting them to pay when I suggest an outing though so they can consider their budget too.

Ha ha @savingholmes - it's definitely not a mansion but the kitchen is big and has more cupboards and drawers than I realised.I'm a people pleaser so I do find it difficult to say no or not be generous but you are right and I will try to set expectations on this trip. We are planning a picnic on the small secluded beach near their house so we will be able to buy nice food and drink from the supermarket which means it should be a very pleasant and cost effective day. I anticipate a trip to their favourite bar and a meal out but that's all we aim to fund this time.
@PennysIntoPounds - the thought of you looking forward to my cupboard finds was err inspiring? Well actually I did think I'd better get tidying so I could report back. Today's exciting find was pudding rice .... several partly used bags which have now been consolidated into a single jar. Will be nice to make rice puddings after the mini heatwave ends. I also found half a bottle of masala. I wracked my brain as to why and when this had made its way into the cupboard and where the other half a bottle had gone. Anyway mystery solved because I think I used it to make tiramisu once. Will make another one next time we have visitors. Tomorrow's instalment will involve the stock cube, sauce mix and odds n sods cupboard .
In MSE news I found £20 in a coat pocket today. Just to clarify, I haven't started pickpocketing - it was one of my coats that I was thinking about taking to the dry cleaners ready for winter. I wonder how much change I'll get from the £20 when the coat is dry cleaned? At least it's sort of paying for itself.4 -
Nice win on the £20. Love that you felt the need to clarify. I don't own coats that need dry cleaning - either that or I never read labels!Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Keep up the cupboard news please, I am easily pleased 😁 That sounds like excellent progress, and you got karma rewarded by finding £20! I like that you said you haven't 'started pickpocketing', this could either mean you're completely innocent or a dab hand 😂https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

Re the masala - I thought perhaps you had been indulging in a few Nigella recipes, as she bungs it into everything.

Thank you for the interest in my cupboards. 🤣
today I learned that failure to manage a spice kit subscription has resulted in 16 boxes of meal kits - equivalent to £40 which has left my purse and not yet earned it's keep. We signed up to simply cook during lock down - incentivised by a promo code but more because we wanted to have cooked at home treats to replace our numerous eating out treats. They are really good kits but we just haven't been factoring them into our meal plans recently and even worse we haven't even been logging in to make our choice so the meals have been selected for us.
anyway, I've paused the subscription and arranged the boxes in a very neat and orderly way on their own she,f in the newly clean and tidy cupboard. We've put ancho glazed salmon and spicy sausage and leek penne on next week's meal plan. On 2 different nights obviously. Most ingredients can be shopped from home.
The 5 year out of date cup a soup that's been hiding in plain sight has not made it onto any meal plan and sadly is now languishing in the bin. I don't even like cup a soup but I think I bought a packet to take into the office many years ago,
tomorrow is jars and non-savoury tins day. Feeling giddy with excitement already (not)3 -
I'll be excited for you 😂
Ooh I can't wait to hopefully have my own place at some point and cupboards to sort out, so satisfying.
You were bookmarked already but if you hadn't been I would definitely be doing so now so I don't miss out on the thrilling cutlery drawer instalment!
Well done on pausing the subscription, these things depend on us not noticing or not getting around to doing something about themhttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

LOL at the lack of excitement at the jars etc.
You could pay stupid tax and let them go. No point compounding a mistake with food you don't want to eat in practice.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030
