Hive

Hello,
I have a Hive Central Heating system and the reason for installing it is to manage my heating more effectively by scheduling slots - however, they only give you 6 options (takes 2 slots to turn on and off 1 request) so i am finding it a little lacklustre right now ....

I am assuming that if i set a long slot to heat the house during the night (say at 22C) as soon as the temp drops below it will fire up meaning lots of boosts and costing more to keep firing up the heating system?! Does anyone know?

I was half wondering if TRV's were going to be a better solution (i have 12 radiators) as i have read that each one can have a schedule set to them ... not researched it yet though.

As far as I can see the only advantage of HIVE, over a normal CH system, is that you can switch it on or off when travelling in Outer Mongolia.

Why do you think firing the boiler up multiple times will cost more?

It also works when travelling in Cyprus and N Wales and I've even used it in Nottingham - I wonder where else it will work from? :p;)

That's how any thermostat works - manual or programmable. The only subtlety perhaps being the hysteresis range.

More significantly I find thermostats that insist the day ends at midnight irritating.
