Car insurance HELP

I am trying to do my car insurance renewal. Now I’ve been driving for 3 years and I am 26. I paid £680 in total last year (including business insurance, all add one, breakdown cover, courtesy car all extras possible basically) I am being quoted £1400 this year, without business insurance or any extras.

I have never had a claim, bump or even a speeding ticket. What is going on and can I do anything??

  • Is this quote from your existing insurer?

Assuming yes, it might be a case where your profile no longer fits their business model. Use the insurance comparison sites and see who comes out best.
  • That is in comparison sites, tried aviva and direct line too.

Something isn't right or has changed.

Have you put in the correct number of years no claims? Changed your occupation?

To bring it down further add an experienced older driver such as a parent, even if they're unlikely to ever drive the car. Just make it clear that you're the main driver.
  • Thanks I did try it with my mum on it. And it brought it down about £200 but I’m still finding it strange that it’s went up so drastically. Even that is almost double what I paid last year.

  • None that I can think of, I’ve had the same job for ten years. Lived at my address for 2 years. Same car as last year. I don’t understand at all.

I second the comments that something has changed. Perhaps you were on a telematics policy, perhaps you're getting quotes with a start date of tomorrow, I've no idea. Most of the comparison sites assume a start date of the next day unless you've a saved quote - make sure you put the right policy start date in.

Of course if you DO need insurance tomorrow, you probably are going to pay significantly more.
  • I am renewing at earliest possible date. From what I can see online 20-26 days is the best time. I will try in a week maybe. But I am just worried it will keep going up.

Has anything changed financially? e.g. any CCJ issued against you or other bad credit? Are you still on the electoral role at your address?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
  • No CCJ, bad my credit is bad. I didn’t think that would effect it as I was paying it all upfront.
