Broadband fibre to the premises help

I live in a rural area and had to get fttp put in by BT my contract ends next week 26th dec. Who else can I go to? Nobody seems to understand my question when I call other broadband providers what they would charge me. They realize the ordinary broadband would only give less than 1mb, so it’s hopeless being connected to anybody without the fttp. There are no options I can find from shell, vodaphone, sky says to phone them, virgin media isn’t available here either. Please let me know if I do only have the BT option, and if that is the case they can charge me what they like. Thank you

BT didn’t put a gun to your head to sign up for FTTP, but if you are wondering why you cannot sign up with other well known ISP’s on Openreach FTTP, it’s because they don’t want to take advantage of the open/wholesale access OR makes available to them and offer service, so basically want to use Sky or use Talk Talk , ask them why they don’t offer it, if they say they are not allowed, that is bulls*it.
There are constant rumours that these company’s are ‘about’ to launch on OR FTTP, but as of yet , no dates or prices.
There are other ISP’s that do offer access to OR FTTP in the same way as BT Consumer , but they tend to be smaller niche providers and charge premium prices, they are not ‘budget’ providers, so don’t expect a reduction on what you pay BT, if you sign up with one of these.
There are many similar posts like yours complaining that you have to use BT who ‘can charge me what they like’ but it’s simply not true, your choices are;
mobile, competing ISP’s currently using OR FTTP, waiting until budget providers decide to launch on FTTP, going back to ADSL , or BT, either paying what they want or trying to negotiate a better price, but if you want to keep your options open and not commit to a new minimum term they are unlikely to offer anything other that the ‘out of contract price’, you don’t like.
Reduction on list price do seem available with BT, but you need to ask and sign up for a new minimum term0 -
I understand your situation as I live in a new build with FTTP. I've got another 7 months to go before my discounted contract with BT comes to an end but I recently checked to see what other providers were available and had problems even getting any results at all.
I know that Sky is an option for me as the builders left us details when we moved in and neighbours use them, but that is my lot. Like you, Sky says I must phone them and initially I would say that is your best bet.0 -
According to here - https://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2019/11/talktalk-prep-imminent-launch-of-openreach-fttp-broadband.html
TalkTalk are going to launch FTTP via Openreach before the end of the year.0 -
Thank you so much for this, I was sure I wasn’t the only one but it’s hard to find out what the choices are, when the people you speak to at talk talk, and the like, don’t understand what fibre to the premises actually mean. I don’t have a gun to my head if I wanted what others take for granted, I work from home and with actually less than 1mb this was just not possible. I don’t understand the jargon on the first post as to what I ask BT for, ie mobile? Competing service providers for fttp, I don’t see there are any possibly with the exception of sky. ADSL I’m unsure what that is, but I think it’s the ordinary bb most can get, mine is less than 1mb however. Perhaps I am not understanding this? I will ring BT again and sky to see what’s my best options now without committing to years with them. Thank yoi0

Hi
This is very interesting, and it does make me think about not signing up to BT for too long.0 -
What BT FTTP speed package are you on as BT supply cheaper 80/2- over FTTP .
However FTTP is a more expensive package than ordinary ADSL fibre .
Of the two other FTTP suppliers to my address both are dearer than BT .
If you work from home then you may need a business contract .
But again the basic problem is you want cheaper and other ISPs dont want to supply you .
<Hi

Your choice in that is down to the BT Contract minimum 12 months some up to 24 months .
Dont forget the BT price rise circa march 2020 that is included in new contracts .0 -
Here is a list of FTTP providers:
https://www.openreach.com/fibre-broadband/fttp-providers
There are one or two others but their names don't come to mind right now.
If you work from home as stated in a previous post, then your internent connection is not something to skimp on by going to a cheap as chips domestic provider targetting the poundshop end of the market like BT / Sky / Talktalk / Voda / EE / Plusnet (etc).Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -

Depending on your use 4G might be an option but fttp is rolling out fast now and the providers will increase pretty quickly to follow this. (We are now @ 25k fttp/week)0 -
